Anyone tried them?

I'm thinking of buying the CA6 MK3 'Rally' Kit

The info given is the following

Power Band : 2800-7500

Valve Timing : 34-74 / 75-45

Unofortunately no duration is given, can this be calculated from the Valve timing figures?

Cheers, Makis

i have no previous knowlege of how the minisport cams perform, but i would go for a more tried and tested approach

go for something like the Swiftune range of cams, they've been race proven, keith calver (mini-god) uses them for his engines, Morspeed ones are good also

as for valve timing, im sure someone like Dan or siggy will have a good idea

are you going to rally the car then? or is it just a cam equivalent to the engine spec?

Definately not rallying my baby. I just want to help it 'breath' more freely

The engine is a factory spec '89 1275 Metro engine with an HS6, but once several parts will be bought, it will be taken off the car for further work. Until then the cam won't be fitted. Camshaft was the first thing on my list. I drove my best mate's mini with a 286 degree camshaft (otherwise a standard engine) and it was pretty good, it's just that i would like a little more than this at the top end of the rev range.

i would have thought a rally cam would be too much for a standard engine

in my experience everything has to be matched to achieve the best performance gains

you wouldnt stick a 45 weber on a standard 1275 now would you

my current engine is fast road spec and an SW5 (or equivalent) is absolutely perfect

i concur lol. think that cam will be a little too much on a standard engine, will be lumpy as bugger on tick over...have heard good thingds about the swift tune sw5 is the dogs danglies!!

There is a new SW5, a 'sport' SW5 or something... its about double the cost but calver now rates this as even better. Although at the cost it should be.

I just got a 1275 MG metro engine with a mini sport fast-road cam, know nothing about it yet, but will let you know how it runs!

I once ran the Minisport CA2. The cam did what it said on the tin but is was pretty badly worn when I took it out after just 15000 miles. MED wouldn't let me put it back in due to the wear.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess that the minisport camsport cams are a no-no then. I'll probably go for the Kent KENMD296 (not the kit, just the camshaft).

The cam is rated for 8000rpm, will 200lb springs be sufficient?

The Kent 296 is a race cam and will let your engine rev but will deprive you of potental torque. The 286 is a better cam as it has persistantly outperformed the 296 on the rollers. I wouldn`t even put the 296 in a lawn mower!

I'll take your word for it :P

286 it is then :P

i start to believe that it's gonna take ages to decide on the parts, nevermind to fit them, lol
