I recon u should spend 2k on a 1300 of somesort, spend 500 quid on a nitrous setup and stage 1 kit and the rest on settin it up. Pound for power nitrous is the best upgrade i recon. The stage 1 kit and even the nitrous is not at all that hard to fit. Its all common scence really. I bought a spankin mini from Jeof Reynolds which was in excellent condition for 2k. And it was a LTD edition Mini Thirty.

The "including fitting" suggests that you would prefer not to do the work yourself, which means you'd probably be better of scanning the 2nd hands in the mags, ebay, local rags etc...

You'll get something fairly smart for 2 to 3k, and then you can use an spare presonalising to your taste...

However, if you want a goer, look for one with carbed 1330 or 1380 engine. The extra cc's over the std 1275 do make a difference.

Unfortunately, however, something like that will bump the insurance, and being a first car on a new licence, it may be worth sticking with a 998 for a couple of years just to get a bit of ncd under your belt..

A mate's just bought a tatty '72 mini with front end damage for 50quid. Its been de-seamed, and "uprated" a bit. Ie Metro turbo motor grafted in with intercooler :P
Its INSANE. You should never be able to DO 115 mph in a Mini, let alone have 1500rpm left over! This seems like the cheapest mod to do, buy a cheap tatty one and s[end the other 2950quid makin it look nice (and not overheat!)
