OK, tonight on the way home, my Cooper has picked up a rattle, and there was me thinking Mini's were reliable motors.
Ok, it clunks for a few seconds when taking your foot off the accelerator pedal, or putting it on the accelerator pedal. If pressure is kept on the pedal while moving there is no noise, take your foot off the pedal and it clunks...
Anyone have any clues.
Mini got a rattle....

It seems to be coming from the front end of the vehicle, and seemingly from the drivers side. It doesnt happen much when going over bumps, only very very bumpy sections of road and I can hear it, but when I am driving down a road say at 30mph, if I take my foot off the accelerator there is this clunky knocking noise, a few times.
Same again if I put my foot on the accelerator , it clunks again a few times.

sounds like it may be an engine stabiliser? If you open the bonnet and put your hand on top of the engine and try and rock it back and to, you may have excessive play in the bushes or something?

I'd go for engine steady aswell.... fairly typical, make sure the bracket has not parted company with the bulkhead.

It was wet last night, and I had gone thru a few puddles..
This morning I have been out in it, and no noise. ?????????
Strange.

I would still check the engine steady.

If u drive it more gently it will not clunk if its the engine steady. Also have a look at the gearbox steady, the bracket on mine broke in 2!

i had similar....... checked the steadies and found nothing when i replaced em......the clunk on mine turned out to be the rear to floor mount of the front subframe.
