Ive got a flywheel with verto ring gear, and also a new, what i belive to be, high torque verto type starter. The problem is that the gear on the starter is only engaging on the flywheel by about 5/10 mm rather than the whole way.
Whats causing this? Could it be a dodgy starter or could it be that minispeed have sent me a high torque inertia type starter?

does the engine turn over at all, or does it just jam as soon as you try and start it

It will engage and try to start it for a fraction of a second and will then just spin, it doesnt seem as if its engaging far enough

it sounds as if you got the wrong starter

Thats minispeeds fault then, it says pre engaged on the invoice, and in the pics on the website they both look the same!

your flywheel #MAY# not be torqued to the correct setting, and therefore it could be missing the ring gear or only just engaging.

its a possibility. but as you say you bought it from minispeed... well there is your answer!

Just spoken to minispeed, and as soon as i said i was having a problem with one of there starters, the bloke on the phone knew what i was on about! He said 'yea we've had some problems with these not engaging properly'! So i now have to send it back so they can send me a new one that has been 're-designed'!
Absolutly useless! Did they not bother testing these starters before selling them?!

shame, you would've thought if they knew about the starter problems they wouldn't still be selling them.

Minispares are a good serivce however and i'm sure they'll sort you out.

did you get your discount?

They said they've re-designed it, they should have contacted every1 that has bought one if they know they're faulty!!
