right I have a vaux astra mid v6 conversion and a rover 820si, but I need to get a place of my own now, so rather than abandon the astra and the silly autobahn excursions. I want to sell the 820 and buy a mini to run and restore/improve...
Now about the improvements and what I had planned the catagories were;
cheap tax - hence under 1.5 litre
cheap running costs - light as poss, small engine and cheap parts
a 2 person runabout and quick with it...

after some thought I decided a mini, with a bike engine... now before I rush out and buy a mini I need to know some technical details with regard to front axle setup and rear hubs, final drive setup and engine frame. Mounting is an issue too... as is reverse!!!
any info would be appricated, pics would be nice too :cheese:
cheers

The front end is effectively mini minus engine and driveshafts. You'll need to think about better brakes (no seriously :) ) Personally I've gone with adj tie bar and camber links aswell

You'll get the front coilovers as part of the z-cars kit aswell as the radiator and fuel tank.

The rear axle is all part of the z-cars conversion (basically chain from the bike engine to a sproket driven diff (LSD is an option)

Reverse is also an option in the form of a 5hp starter motor and a large gear.

For pics see any of the projects on here or go to www.z-cars.co.uk

Any more questions your more than welcome to ask (that doesn't guarantee I'll know the answer though :nugget: )

I'm either going to sound laughably naive or scarily overconfident now but...

I wanted to build/fabricate the entire project myself... the only bits that I was going to get would be some hosing, the engine (suggestions please, as I know 'busa's and R1's make good donors but what about dukes and the big kwacks, incedentally was about twin 400cc's), the rest I was going to use either the donor biks components or the mini's... hence detailed pics of other frames and actual mounted frames where and how they mount to the shell and where do you re-enforce a mini to cope with big bhp though the rears, and what brake upgrades are suitable for stopping this?

Personally if you want to fabricate it yourself I would just spaceframe it. There would be very little point trying to retain any of the original mini bits. Other than the body.

Still have a chat with Z-cars though as they have used a lot of other bike engines in the past and are also building a space framed bike engine conversion.

Ok if you imagine the mini shell turned onto it's roof.

Remove all the floor and build you own chassis complete. You can then choose all you own suspension design and pick up points etc etc.

For a better description have a look at http://www.theminifo...?showtopic=1227

F1 mini is build a bike engined mini on a space frame.

Ahhh... I understand, I was thinking along those lines for the rear but it would be best perhaps for a complete frame then just mount the shell to this?
