I think if you have a flip front you can leave the engine in?

It's easier if you take the engine out.

Best done with the engine out. You also have to be careful if you have a cam/oil-pump with the spider drive. The spider can come out and fall into the transmission if you aren't careful. I'm not sure when they stopped making that style of drive but there are a number of them out there.

There are 3 different drives, so if you change the cam, you need to get the oil pump to match. Spider drive is the old A series 1275 one I think, A+ uses slot drive. I prefer spider myself, but like dklawson said, you gotta watch out that you dont drop the drive peice into the 'box.

Oh are you intending on takin the gearbox off to do it? If not can let us know if all goes well? I would really like to change my cam but as the engine is running well at the moment i don't want to take too much apart. Guessworks has given a quick idea of how it is to be done but i want to be sure it'll go ok before i c**k it up. lol :ohno:

Whip the engine out, it only takes an hour. Drain all the oil out of it and turn the engine upside down and then you can safely take the cam out.

Is it worth the risk of loosing a cam follower into the gearbox and wrecking your engine and box.

With a removable front, I could get it out of Blue in 30 mins

When i put the pushrods back in i'd be able to see if somethin was missing yea? an if it was then i'd take the gearbox off and fish it out. But you advise against doin it this way?
