Hi all my brothers mini has a ducelier distributor and the back plate that the points mount to has worn so you cant adjust them. I've found a couple of places with second hand distributors but thought that replacing it with a lucas type might be better but i dont know what type of lucas to replace it with. Does anyone know anything about these ducelier distributors or have a better idea to solve the problem, because i seem to be getting mixed opinions from the parts suppliers.

I believe the ducellier dizzy was only fitted to cars with A-Series engines, rather than A+. If you find any Mini with a standard a-series and a Lucas dizzy then it will fit.

I'm not sure about wiring arrangements, but the clamp and drive dog in the enging will be the same.

If the Ducelier was used in the A-series you could replace it with any number of units going back to the DM2. However, it would probably be best to use the later 43D4 or 45D4 series Lucas distributor.

Visit Marcel's web site and his tech pages. He has a database of Lucas distributors in a PDF file. See:
http://www.planet.eo...chichm/tech.htm

Marcel has a wealth of information and the distributor database will let you compare the advance curves/applications of various Lucas dizzys.

The later ones are for A+ engines so will not fit an A series ( the fixing is different ).

and DK, came across that website the other day, absolutely brilliant ain't it.

Marcel is a good guy and he's helped me out quite a bit over the past five years. His web pages have many interesting and informative articles.

If you want an electronic ignition to replace the Ducelier, consider buying a Pertronix Ignitor for the 45D4. You buy Ignitor under another brand name over there don't you... is it Aldon? Anyway, the Ignitor works very well.

On the other hand, if it's for an A-series, you could fit the Hitachi dizzy as described on Marcel's web site. I'm running one at the moment. It was a fun project to install and has been very reliable.
