R1 Not Selecting Gears

Gear selection isnt quite right, the clutch appears to working correctly, and we have removed the gear selector cables and have attempted to select gears by manually pushing and pulling the gear selector armature.
1st is a little clunky occasionally
2nd is fine
3rd is fine
4th is OK-ish
and heres the problem - cant get anything at all from 5th or 6th.
Anything spring to mind? something simple we might be over-looking? Or maybe where should we start looking - is there any tests, visual checks I can do to identify gear selector shaft / fork failures ? or anything at all?

er.. silly question, how tight is your drive chain? on a normal R1 bike this will affect gear selectiob
chain drive is pretty good - tensioner seems to be doing its job and PHil and Daz ( manufacturers ) have done a full check over in the last week.

check the position of the selector then, i know on a bike if its set up to 'close' between gears you cant select lower gears. also i believe yours is hydraulic? if it is, might want re bleeding.

I did not want to be the one to say that......From owning an R6 and R1 i can tell you they are prone to gearbox problems. If all your linkages are set up correct bthen i would say its rebuild time. They were never the strongest box around
its true though, the main cause is.... dare i say it.... wheelies!

I didnt know that ! Because so many people are using them for car conversions I guess I just assumed they were pretty bullet proof.

like on your brakes, some r1 clutches are hydraulic not cable, cant remember which models,year though.. its escapes me.
Aha - get you - mine has a hydraulic clutch set up - you do know its in the mini ? maybe I should have said
the clutch appears to working OK.

I think we need a 3rd body to manually activate the clutch while No. 2 manually activates the gear selector, while No. 1 does the driving seat bit ?

i agree. trawl through the (other) forums i just have and theres alot of bits and babs on gear selection... ps.. when you sending lights and (very exciting) free shiny bits.yes, i know its in the mini, thats why im waffling on about hydraulics... lol
