After keeping telling myself " I'll check it later, I'll check it some other time" i finaly descied to check the oil in my car, Only to find it had none in it. I checked the oil 1hr after it had had a short run of about a half mile.
I popped down to tesco, and bought some 10-40 oil, to throw in it, until i change the oil and oil filter this monday. After filling it with one Litre of oil the car has never run on idle, not even after an 18 mile run. Instead every time i stop or have the clutch down for more than a few seconds, i have to pull the choke out. This is totaly screwing with my fuel economy. I did 29 miles on £5.00 of fuel
The idle speed was always a little low, but now it doesnt exist!!!
Any ideas????

It takes 4 1/2 litres to fill a standard mini engine. Sounds like you may have killed your thrusts if the engine is dieing when you press the clutch. Or it could be in shock from having some lubrication and need a tweek somewere!

It isn't the wrong oil, there was a discussion about which oil to use a few weeks back with several people saying they use 10-40 and several using 20-50, I use 15-40 I think and thats fine. But we won't go into my oil economy.well thats the rong oil to use in the first place. i would change the oil filter now takes 10 minets

They are either side of the Centre main bearing, and if they have gone, then it's engine strip.
...and most probably crankshaft straight out of engine and into bin.
Put a decent amount of good oil (not Tesco crud) in quickly, it may not be too late yet.....

When my thrusts went (on a brand new engine too!!) I had to scrap the crank and block. I found 1 of the 4 thrusts melted to the crank, don't know what happened to the rest and they weren't in the gearbox!

Suffice to say the oil being slightly 'wrong' makes no difference as is...
