Tesco's are really tough with it, hubby did some temping work driving for them and not only do tesco themself keep an eye on you but the other drivers(union members) moan at you if you do any set runs quicker than they think you should as it makes them look slow/lazy.

Think of these guys just doing their job! If it wasn't for them we wouldn't have fresh food when ever we fancy or need something 24 hours a day!!

They deliver the sweet act that happens between a male and female???, because i need that 24hrs a day :P

funny thing is...

I leave at 8am...
to get there for 9am.

if I leave 5mins early... and there's no tesco lorry's... I get there at 8.30am!!!

If I leave on time.. or late... its 8.50-9.10am...

depends how many Tesco Lorrys are about!

Today... this is no joke...
THREE!!!! TESCO LORRYS!

all on the way home!

overtook one, then two passed me with HUGE cue's behind going the other way!!!
I had to laugh.

Why artic lorry has to drive slow sometimes

Posted Image

Sometimes you have to face it that lorry drivers need to drive slow, alot of skill is needed to drive a artic and believe me it isnt easy

the driver has loads of things to be wary of such as high winds and they need space to monouver and turn and the last things he needs is someone up his butt or overtaking him and then cutting him up to get back into the lane

thats why you should give lorrys especially artics alot of space and time

respect them and they will respect you back

Its a shame you dont live near me Herbie, i'd take you out for a day in an artic just so you can see what its really like, even let you have a go in the yard where i park up.

You just wouldnt believe the amount of blind spots there are, remember if your behind and cant see the trucks mirrors, then the driver cant see you. yes it is true we are going to travel a lot slower than you in your mini, but then your only hauling 1/2 ton approx, that artic can be anything up to 40, and trust me when something goes wrong it normally means its going to go wrong big time.

Most big companys are keeping an eye on their drivers now, more so than ever what with fuel costs, but have to admit tescos are one of the worst, you wouldnt see me driving for them.

I am am a very firm believer in every person that passes their car test should spend one hour driving a lorry.

It really really annoys me people moaning about lorry drivers, my dad was in haulage for 38 years and owned his own business for a number for years and also did some work for tesco's, its not as easy as you think trying to drive a 44 tonne artic, even harder when its a tanker (as youc an tell from that accident pic, 1000's litres of liquid sloshing about.)

Tesco's own motor's are limited to just over 50mph hence why you see every single truck over taking them on the motorway, they have slightly increased the limit in the last year or two i think due too the number of complaints.
My dad used to do the a run from Middleton near Manchester all the way upto Livingston and back in 1 hit ie 9 hours driving there drivers used to take two days....enough said :P
They also do get in outside workers with there own units these arent usually as heavily restricted as there own on the speeds, usually 56mph but there are ways around this.

The needle on the tacho can be slightly bent down to give a false top end reading but with this the baseline usually reads below where it should sit. The tacho itself can be reset so it still registers as 56mph on the tacho but speed is actaully 60. My dad had to get this done so he could do the journey from Heywood Distribution Park topside of Manchester too Felixstowe docks in 4hrs 30 mins (max driving time before a 45min break).

Oh and just to let you know trucks arent as slow as you think, pull the fuse on a 400bhp unit and you will easily see off a 5series BMW and be well on the way for 110mph, just gotta try and get the power down :dontgetit:.

These are a couple of pics of my dads mates motor (has about 4 painted up like this now, all in the region of about 50K of extras onto the base model) its a V8 with 580 horses

Thanks for Pointing it out...
I'm not one for Speeling :P

and Southy...
you say there limit is 50mph...

why the F*** are they going at 30-40mph everyday!

I dont care if they are hard to drive, its there job... they want to do it. and good on them.
but there day job also effects everyone else's job.... of.... getting to work :dontgetit:

It takes me 40mins on a traffic free day.
23 miles to get there.

I dont really wana be stuck doing 30-40mph all the way to work.
I allready get up at 6.55am everyday as it is!

and dont get home till 6.30pm... but thats life.

Just wish Tesco didnt own everything... including now it would seem my way to work!

Yeah i say there are limited to about a maximum of 50mph but like someone has already said on minor roads the highway code says different as too what speeds that they should be doing, just cause the road signs say you can do 60mph on a twisty road doesnt mean you have to take them at that speed....

Oh and most of them drivers work shifts and are on set routes at certain times, and with it being earlyish in the morning most likely to be the older drivers as they prefer to do the night trunks...

Nope you obviously do not know the highway code do you. I bet he was on a single carraige way with a limit of 60mph, whihc means by law he is not able to go faster than 40mph, 50mph on a dual carraige way and 56mph on a motorway.

Yes they have to slow down, funnily enough they don't handle like minis round corners

^^ I agree

It might be because the driver is more qualified than you in terms of risk awareness courses and therefore drives more carefully to avoid getting killed at work whilst driving.

Obviously the lorry drivers can't stop idiots driving up their "rear end", trying to overtake them when it's not safe to do so or pointlessly honking their horns but the style they adopt reduces the risk they'll cause an accident.

How would you feel if a lorry came piling into you from the opposite direction because he was going too fast for the road?

Oh the irony! MUST ..... RESIST ..... NOT ..... RETORT....!!!

As said above by myself and many others - You can no way compare it to a car, let alone a Mini.

And these speed limits you keep going on about - they're irrelevant. The sign-posted limits are
predominantly for cars. 50mph limit on a country lane does NOT, and i mean :dontgetit: NOT mean that a fully loaded combo a) can legally and b) safely do even the truck limit of 40mph.

Think about a few things... think about how a 2l bottle of coke acts when you lay it on a table and roll it from side to side, then let it go. Now imagine that as a tanker on the back of a truck.
Second - Your Mini weight ~ 650kg. Imagine the weight of ~30 Minis. That's a typical fully loaded tractor/trailor combo.
Third - Think about when you brake for a junction in your Mini, and how long it takes. Now think about how long 44 tonnes takes to bring to a halt... the fore-planning they have to do is immense.

Finally... stop whinging. Without trucks, you get nothing.
