i've just bought a steel flip front, and i'm just considering the best ways to mount/attach it.

I'm going to attach hinges at front, and then bonnet pins in all 4 corners of the bonnet(steel removable)...if i welded a metal plate under the scuttle, would i be able to attach the front by these bonnet pins holding the bonnet to the flip front...but also the flip front to the scuttle?

do you get what i mean?

any ideas appreciated!

Best way to do it is with Dzues fasteners on the a-panels, think minispares sell them.

will dzus fastners on the a-panel be sufficient?

have most people added any kind of rubber between the seams to lower vibration noises?

You can put in some faom or something if you want, but you dont realy need it because the dzus fittings pull it in tight. If you look thru the mags, most of the cars have 2 fasteners on each A-panel.

cheers guys!

flappy urs sounds much the same as mine when its done, how did you finish the a panel seam and the wing seams when the flip front is closed? have you placed the finishing strip over the 2 seams like if they were welded and then just remove it when flipping the front?or have you just neatened the seams on the 2 panels?

when putting a flip front on...why do people cut away the inner flitch(i think it's called that)??

i've got an auxillary fan so that is attached to the inner flitch isnt it? so i couldn't cut any away?

any help appreciated!

also, are rubber bonnet hooks suitable for the a-panels instead of dzus fastners?

thanx

how do the deuz fastners work. i understand the bit with screw head thingy on is on the fg front, but where does the little bar go? do you screw it to some metal or something???

I've just bought 4 and rubber hooks for my front.

i'm not positive but i think it sticks out from the a-panel, so that when the front is on it's behind the wing.

are you using the rubber hooks for the bonnet or for the a-panel?

The dzus fasteners fit flush with the outer panel and have a locking pin that goes thru the panel and catches a sringy wire thing ont the back of the inner panel, and you twist the fastener to lock it in place.

so can anyone guide me about cutting the inner part?

also, do people only cut this inner part away on a "weekend" mini, as i'm thinkin the engine area would get pretty mucked up when it's wet from the spray off the wheels? yes or no?

anyone???

mines a daily car, i;ve cut mine. just cut the inner wing upto shocker, dont get too close tho the shocker mount needs support from the panel.

may get mucky, but most mini bays do. Allows easier access to work on and remove engine if needed.
