Hi everyone out there. I have been viewing the general chat and advice for some months now whilst searching for my 4th mini (the first 3 were owned over 10 years ago and I'm only just able to afford to indulge owning a second car now!!). I am on the verge of purchasing said mini - a 96 Cooper that has done 69000 miles. In all respects it is the one I have been searching for, but one thing worrys me - rust. It is showing signs of rust around the front headlights and one of the sills. I am not at all mechanically minded but intend to maintain it as best I can myself through on the job learning/mistake making. I have read that rust around the headlights could be a marker for more serious problems underneath. How do I know this? And if it is, how much should I allow to rectify it (asking price is £2.5K)? I would be grateful for some advice. Thanks.
I'm new and would appreciate some advice!

Hi
Is the mini sportpack or spi, not that it makes a difference to rust spots. Rust around the headlights isnt too bad, more cosmetic. Sills may need replacing if its more than surface.
The main areas to check for expensive fixes (unless you can weld) are, under the carpets in the footwells, in the boot where the subframe is attached, the subframes themselves, the rear subframe mounts inside the "door" bins (pull them trim out and have a feel about). And the scuttle pannel under the windscreen.
Generally other than this just look out for the usual used car gremlins.
Cheers and good luck.

It is standard which is what i was looking for, and unmodified, so that I can stamp my own personality on it. Intend to add just a few bits over the coming months, can't wait to pick it up and get started! Thanks for the advice.Hi
