wooden dashes and clocks

when you have one of these full-front wooden dash jobbies, do you retain the standard speedo/gauge bracket which attaches to the bulkhead or do you get rid of it and screw the gauges direct to the back of the wooden dash?

as far as I know you lose the bracket through the bulkhead, and the gauges should usually press into the dash, or are screwed in as you say.
