I've got a question for you guys regarding the pinned schematic for coil wiring.

I looked at this today for the first time. I see some conflicting information in the schematic that I'm hoping one of you can explain.

It's my understanding that the pink wire from the ignition switch is a resistor wire for externally ballasted coils. During cranking the coil should get a full +12v from the starter solenoid as shown. During normal running the coil is supposed to get its power through the pink wire which produces a voltage drop... reducing the operating voltage of the coil to about +6v.

What I don't understand is the white wire shown in the schematic going to coil (+) from the fuse box. This wire appears to feed not only the coil but the ignition module. Therein lies the conflict. If this wire is connected to coil (+) and if this is still a ballasted ignition coil, the coil will be running at a full +12v all the time which is not what God and Lucas intended.

Is it assumed in this schematic that the reader/user will have replaced their externally ballasted ignition coil with a 3-ohm, standard coil? If not, shouldn't the white wire for the ignition module go directly from the fuse box to the ignition module and NOT connect to coil (+)? The wiring I'm describing with direct power supplied to the ignition module is what is necessary when running a ballasted coil with a (Pertronix) Ignitor module.

Please let me know if I'm reading the schematic right.

Yes that schematic has a few thing wrong with it, I was meaning to say something about that. Basically when going back from ballasted to normal ignition you should remove the old ballasted supply wires as they are useless, and the picture shows them being kept.
