I have a 93' Cooper Spi and there is smoke coming from the back of the engine bay it is accompanied by a sound like air escaping near the element housing, could it be the housing itself? hoses, or even the exhaust or manifold? Please help.

if it smells like exhaust then that exactly what it is, either manifold or pipe or the cinnection between the two...

Has it sounded a little 'sportier' recently ???
