as you may have read in my newbie post i have a bog standard 1982 998cc. i am going to be doing it up but as i am only 15 i dont have a lot of knowlage on minis as my dad only works on landrovers

anyway could anyone tell me what i have to do or buy to fix my problems:

1. my indicators take a few seconds to come on and only flash once every second or 2 and are inconsistant

2. my hazzard lights are way too fast and flash about 3 times a seconds

3. only one of my washers squirts, (i have chome ones to fit already, will this solve)

last of all (i know its not a problem but) how hard is it to fit discs and how expensive

Thnaks from george

1. best to ditch the old type indicator unit and fit an electronic one, all you'll need to do is add an extra earth to wire it up and it will be a million times better.

2. sounds like the flasher unit is faulty or the wrong one, just replace again.

3. could be a leaky pipe or blocked pipe/jet

4. not sure as i've never converted, you will obvioulsy need the disk, swivel hub, caliper, balljoints, cv joints etc, don't know if the top and bottom arms or the driveshafts are any different?

Almost sounds like your flasher units are in the wrong way round
(or possibly just dodgy)
easy to replace thou

on the side they should say something like 2 x 21w indicator, and 4 x 21w hazards,
(thats if you dont have side indicators)

on my mini the indicator flasher is behind the clocks, and the hazard flasher is in the engine bay on the bulk head next to the wiper motor

Conversion to disks... I don't believe we dont have an FAQ for that.. ( all except the most exotic minis have drums on the rear ! )

but..

Conversion to 8.4" disks ( which require 12" wheels ) is just a matter of taking the drive train off ( drums, hubs, cv's, drive shafts, and pots ) and replacing the lot with the equivalent from a mini fitted with disks.

Conversion to 7.5" (or 7.9") so they fit under 10" wheels is a little more expensive. you can still use the drive train from a 8.4" setup, but you need to replace the calipers, disks and drive flanges. This can be done a number of ways..
Buying used cooper S (pre 71) calipers etc, or buying new, or buying new alloy 4 pot calipers. Pickup76 is currently attempting a conversion using fiesta MK2 calipers ( MK1 calipers are a known conversion, but has potential issues ).

I could prattle on for eons about this but to save the thread I'll stop there !
