Hi
Thanks for that guys! And thanks Dan for your info on the magnatronics kit and the lucas sports coil! I have now removed the coil as it was for non ballast systems and have fitted a standard and correct type of coil!

Sorry for all the silly questions though, im just getting back into minis after a 5 year break!

Ah it was the older type SU!

Just to follow on, when and which HIFs were used?

I believe HIF38's were used on the last carbed 1275's in the early 90's, and an HIF44 may have been used on the ERA Turbo. other rhan that it will be an HS4 for singles ( with the exception of 850's which I think used an HS2 ) and twin carbs will all have been HS2's

I'll now go and check against the manuals and see

yup, Guessworks is pretty much bang on, except for some Mk3 998's, which had HS2's. My mates '73 Clubby 998 has a HS2.

HIF38's were fitted to the Mini Sprite 1275, and also to the Italian Job's I believe.

HIF44's on almost all 1275 Metro's, including MG, Vanden Plas, GTa, Turbo (modified carb on turbo). 998 Metro's tended to have HIF38's, whereas 998 Mini's (mostly) were fitted with the side float HS4.

I thought the HIF38 was fairly rare, they always seem to be more expensive than HIF44?

nah, go down the scrappy, look for a 998 metro, and you'll find a 38.
