The last picture is your heater on / off valve..
I bet your heater stays at one temp all the time, its not got the cable attached.

Just a few things that aren't clear on the pics...left side of the carb, theres a big pipe, its a crank case breather pipe..were does it go...is it blocked off ?? If it goes nowhere it needs plugging.

also theres a wire going under the coil, seems to say resistive on it, wheres it going to ??

Have you a ballasted or non ballasted coil ?? can't see a ballast wire going to it ?

il ask then il go check,

first is the pipe u are talking about the brassy pipe coming from the carb? its never been pluged in??

second is the wire you are talking about the white wire?

third how do i tell difference between ballasted and non ballasted?
really sorry about all the questions but i want to do everything right!!

thanks

No the pipe I'm refering to is in front of the brassy pipe...its a rubber hose, held on with a jubilee clip..

The brassy pipe is a breather pipe. you'd be better with a length of rubber hose on that stop any bits of crud dropping in there.

In the third picture along (on the right), there's what looks to me like the ballast resisted wire, is it going anywhere ??

The next bit Doug's your man, unless it says on the coil I'm not sure how to tell the difference..they do often say though

the big black tube seems to go from there into somewhere down near the bottom of the fan, the resistive wire goes into the coil and into a larger group of wires which seem to go towards the steering column, im not sure what type of coil it is.

well that all sounds ok, if that wire goes to the coil then you've got a ballasted system.

I've sort of reached my limit now , not had any experience with that type of carb..

Did you find the mixture screw...are you sure the timings right ??

looking at that engine it looks like its had a few tweaks, looks like a stage one kit of sorts..

It's possible and this is only guessing you've got the wrong jet in the carb...

one thing to remember though when adjusting mixture settings or timing you need the engine properly warmed up at its running temperature.

Now your going to ask which jet should it have, again your running a 1275 with a Hif carb, not my area so can't help

yes!!!!! its going, thought id let you all know. i took it to a mini specialist and my coil was dead, he changed the coil and the lead going to the coil was only i 7v supply not enough to start a 1300 engine, changed to a 12 v supply, gapped the plugs, checked distributor cap, cleaned rotor arm and cap and earthed the engine?!? duno what that is or y it wasnt earthed!! anyway starts first time every time now! any way new question, it needs painted, i have the paint and i need someone in newcastle to do it all i want is a blow over no fancy bare shell respray just the minimum, had a quote for 250 quid, but that guys in jail now, anyone know anybody?

Forgive me for being lazy but this thread is now 3 pages long and reviewing every post will take quite a long time.

7 volts supplying the coil would NOT be a problem if the car has a ballast ignition system. If he fit a new ballast coil and switched the wiring to give it a full +12V supply it will only be a matter of time before the points and the coil do fail. Hopefully he fit a "standard" coil and if he did, you'll be fine. Do you have an multimeter that you could check the coil with?

Regardless, I'm glad you're back on the road again.

duno what sort of coil he had there was a wire that said resistive on it, he said that was wrong and changed it, hes pretty good and reliable, and cheap!! haha! but its working perfect, is there anyway i can check to make sure its a standard coil?
