Just spoke to someone today about a Turbo crank. Ive heard loads of stories about these things but are they actually any different to a standard crank or not?
I think they are tuftrided but im not sure. Is there any way of finding out whether a component has been tufened or not?

Any crank which has been tutrided ( heat treated ) that have a ever so slightly duller surface ( but harder ), I don't know if turbo cranks are much different to any other A+ and when it comes down to it, you can get a crank heat treated for 25 notes anyways so not that special !

Tomorrow or Sunday I'll be able to take a picture of a treated crank which has be splashing around an engine for 30K if you want ! and of cause the state of the bearings...

Well the thing is, ive ordered a crank from......well lets not say any names and Ive waited 4 weeks for it. Itll be tuftrided, wedged, bladed, balanced and just about every mod going on an A-Seires crank. Im in a real rush to get mine going so the bloke said if its not back from the tuftriders by tuesday, hell modify a turbo crank for me that he informs me is tuftrided as standard. I trust the block but Ive been ripped off before and I just want to make sure before hand.

some people reckon that the early turbo's had forged cranks but this isnt true.
i think the early ones were a bit better than the later ones as they have a different casting number and are darker in colour. but later ones are just standard run of the mill A+ cranks.
i'll try and find the casting number of the early one for you.

i've just got a stock A+ crank in my turbo lump and its fine.

CAM6581 is the early turbo crank which is supposedly better
CAM6232 is the normal 1275 A+ crank.

Nice one mate. Will that crank run up to just under 9grand though. I definatly want to have a tuftrided crank though just for safety sake.

So do you recon hes telling me porkies. He did say he usually only modifies them for race use as they are so good.

He better not be as I know a few people that use him including some on this forum.

A standard crank is good for at leasst 8k rpm, just make sure you get the block strapped if your revving it high.

Tuftriding a crankshaft will not enable you to use higher RPM levels. All it does is give the crank a harder surface, meaning it takes longer to wear.

That what I thought. Thing is ill be running a 3.6:1 Final drive so its gunna be a quite revvy motor in general driving conditions fullstop. I take it this will cause it to wear quicker surely.

Thanks for the info though
