I have just been lookin for a possible car for the future and have been lookin at z cars (bike engined mini's). How reliable are they? And do they come already built? If not how much would it cost to get one built(the single engined type)?
Cheers

ED

expect to pay 15k+ for a z-cars built one. About 10k if you build it yourself

I have a feeling that currently Chain logevity is an issue, and also the loadings on the bike gearbox.

How many times have you heard that hte Huddersfield mini is off the road, I've only ever seen it running once, and that was last year at the showdown ( and even then all I saw was it's arse dissapearing off into the distance... bit of unfair competition I thought !! )

That car never had any problems when it belonged to holeshot racing. The guys who made it.

But the loading problem on the bike box is a myth. Everyone bangs on about that and lack of torque.

The box's on the bike cars I know of, have never been an issue.
The Torque problem is easily solved with a mahoosive sprocket on the drive shaft to gear it down. Believe me it works because these cars will wheel spin if you want them too.

just as a side note, i've met several wesfield/caterham 7 type car owners that have converted back to car engines in their everyday use cars.
they were saying that they aren't so much fun to drive once the novelty has worn off, apperently all the gear changing to keep the engine on song gets tireing after a while!

yeah I heard that, but doesn't seem to be a problem with R1 and busa z-cars kits. Apparently they pull hard from crawling speed in 6th GEAR!
But can;t really comment only been in one once.
