Right, this is going to be a long one, got 28 pictures to go up, haha. Here goes.

Posted Image
This was a few weeks ago, thought I'd document the occasion because it's very very rare in Lancaster to have 3 Minis in sight at once, let alone parked in a row. The guy came out and said to me and my friend "Nice cars" we stood there with massive grins on our faces. Mini owners are just cool :dontgetit:.

Posted Image
Rolled her out the garage.

Posted Image
This is where she's being kept while I carry out the work that needs doing. I'm very appreciative that my friend and his dad have agreed to let me use their garage now we've cleared it out and give it power.

Posted Image
From inside the garage.

Right, on to the rusty bits, which is the part that's going to take a while haha.

Posted Image
Passenger door, doesn't matter as I have a replacement waiting to be reskinned and put on.

Posted Image
Passenger a-panel.

Posted Image
Passenger sill, oversill will be coming off and replaced with genuine sills after the damage they've caused is corrected.

Posted Image
Passenger rear quater, below window.

Posted Image
Passenger rear quater, in front of rear arch.

Posted Image
Driver rear quater, below window.

Posted Image
Driver rear quater, in front of rear arch.

Posted Image
Driver sill, same as passenger will be replaced with genuine.

Posted Image
Driver a-panel.

Posted Image
Driver door, same as passenger, I have a replacement to go on.

Posted Image
Driver door step.

Posted Image
Passenger door step.

Posted Image
Passenger floor, rust caused by the silly oversills. REMEMBER LADIES AND GENTS, BUY GENUINE SILLS.

Posted Image
Same area, you can see the floor through there.

i give you credit for taking it on lol some of thoose bits are hard to sort

im about to scrap a mini that has less rust than that 1 but has been raced so its preety much knackerd
shame mine isent going to live that long as its a tidy car lol

Thanks for the kind words mate. To be honest, when I bought her I didn't know about the inner sills, the wings, the front panel, the flitch panels or the door steps. But hey, we all make mistakes and being my first Mini it was bound to be a bit of a lemon.

I think in a way though I've got lucky, it's got sound running gear and electrics, I can see where the body is bad and where it needs repairing. On the other hand, my friend bought a Mini with a good body and it breaks down every 5 minutes because of a shoddy wiring job my the previous owner. I think we'll be spending many many more hours on his electrics yet haha.

I've been measuiring and I think I'm going to mount my 6.5" components on the inner wheel arch, just under the bottom dash rail, I don't think they'll be in the way so much there, relatively out of view to thieves and should give a decent sound stage.

You can add Elliot to your Facebook if you so wish here:

Thanks again, more progress soon I hope :D.

Righty, I'm still up haha. I just had to take my sister up to the University to print off an essay so I took the oppertunity to transfer the pictures from my SD card to my flash pen so I could upload them, so here they are:

Posted Image
Final trimming and cutting to get the patch to fit.

Posted Image
Needed to repair this before I continued with the floor and inner sill.

Posted Image
Patched, albeit not very well.

Posted Image
Patch tacked in place.

Posted Image
Seam welded where required.

Posted Image
Plug welded to the door step.

Posted Image
Quickly ground the welds down a little, only had time to do a small section properly but it shows the weld has penetrated right through and I'll be able to dress them nicely.

Posted Image
Cleaned up edges of the boot lid frame ready for bonding.

Posted Image
Tiger seal applied, skin positioned and clamped on.

That's all the pictures from last Monday.

Don't think I'll be getting any work done until after the new year has arrived now, but you never know. I think I might stay home and work on my speaker enclosures.

Thanks for looking.

Hi just read your thread. It is really inspiring I started what was meant to be a simple quick restore of my Mini about 18 months ago only to find the both inner wings where serverly holed, and rusted. So decided to replace both inner wings complete with front floor pans, wings, front panel and outer sills. The reason it's taken so long is that I bought an Alfa as my everyday car and spend most of the year trying to keep it running. I also got sidetracked and done a complete stereo install in the Alfa, albeit the install is good.

But with now a New Year, I am going to devote most of my weekends on the Mini to celebrate mine and its 30th birthday in August.

Keep up the ggod work and I look forward to seeing pictures of the finished article in May.

Sounds like a typical Mini adventure that ;D.

Yeah, I'm hoping I can get it done for May, at least to have it back on the road, which means the bodywork must be finished. I don't mind working on the mechanicals after that.

I guess it'll never be completely finished, they never are.

Good luck with your Mini too chap :).

I've been neglecting working on Elliot a bit later but with any luck should be getting back to it pretty soon :).

I've got a small bet on with a friend about if the car will be in an MOTable state by the end of May. I think it will, but I'm not going to rush it for the sake of £2 but we'll see.

Progress soon.

Well, those panels I ordered didn't show up until yesterday but that doesn't matter so much because I didn't make it to the garage on saturday anyway because the weather wasn't really lending itself to working on the car.

In other news however, Jordie and TukTuk came down to Lancaster today to bring me a nice 1275 block, pistons, rods, crank and a bunch of other bits to get me on my way to building a nice reliable (cough) 1275. Thanks again guys for coming down, it was really fun to have a chat with some fellow Mini owners :).

I'm going to try again to get to the garage this weekend to do some work, but again, it's all down to the weather. Not the best time of year for it I guess :D.

It's finding time and the weather mate. The car is in a garage but there's not enough room to work in there, not on the sills and stuff anyway.

I've got every wednesday free after 12, I'm going to start heading to the garage instead of sitting in my Uni room, weather permitting of course.
