Hello and welcome to another of my rebuild threads!!

I've sold the Mx5 so was looking for another mini, after spending a few days looking at utter dung heaps I came accross this little beauty on Fleabay(where else?)

Isn't he beautiful?

Adraitic Beige with a set of reverse rims and a red leather interior

He's still running a 998 with an 1" 1/4 carb, and i've got no plans to change that, the exhaust is the single box type so he has a lovely rasp to him.

He failed the MOT on 4 bits of welding(more on that later) and a few little bit, the brakes failed on the MOT test so the previos owner had then replaced(saves me doing it)

I got him off an old boy in Stoke who had bought him and didn't appreciate the extent of the rust problems.

My plan is to get him back on the road quickly and then use him, maybe next year treat him to a mini-makeover.

With this in mind I stripped him out an gave him a quick look over

Don't look that bad?

Then it turned nasty!!

Expanding foam filler in the seat crossmember and the sills, oh dear, someone had been here before!!

Once the foam had been dug out I made a plate and cleaned up the passengers side floor

Passengers side done, I started on the drivers side, OH BOY!!

Mr I AM A Bodger had has a field day here!!

Rusted plate on rusted blade with side order of expanding foam and body filler, yum yum

I did start to try and repair this, but it was just to far gone, the only option was to dig out the plasma cutter and start again

Gonna get a new front floor pan and a drivers sill tomorrow and try and sort this mess out.

Once this is done I'm going to try and get him MOT'd this week

Hi

I bought a mk2 off ebay last month provisional check over seems to indicate a good solid example

I thought this mark 3 didn't sell I had it in my "watch" file but forgot to bid, do you bid or did you do a deal after
if you don't mind me asking.

and can I be really cheeky and ask how much you paid :)

I did an off ebay deal, by the sound of it he'd been trying to shift it for a while.

It was only 30 miles from so it would have been rude not to buy it.

I gave a fair price for it!!

Well, I've been busy this evening!!

I've started to fit the new floorpan, and am quite happy with the result

Attached File  pooh_001.JPG   320.75K   93 downloads

Before anyone asks, yes I did remove the subframe bolts!!

I also cut part of the sill out in preperation for repairing the inner sill and crossmember

Attached File  pooh_002.JPG   327.16K   50 downloads

Had a bit of a fire, a stray spark managed to ignite some old horsehair carpet behind the dash.

Luckily I keep a bottle of spray water handy.

Then some unseen foam in the sills went up as well.

Just gotta repair the crossmember, inner sill and outer sill and he's ready for a ticket.

I really want to get him done for the weekend.

More tomorrow(hopefully)

Pattern parts, I can't afford pattern parts!!

These are genuine fake imitation pattern parts!

Do you think I'm made of money?
