Well, had a bit of a time with Pooh!!

I decided on Thursday that I wanted him to be MOT'd for the weekend so I stopped in the garage till 11pm Thursday night to get him all welded up.

I also repaired the steering cololum, adjusted the brakes, and generally checked him over.

I'm fairly happy with the result, not a resto job, but strong and fairly tidy.

Anyway, I decided to take him for a quick spin around the block to check him out.

Disaster!!!

The front side passengers wheel felt like it was trying to shake itself off, dammit!

It was too late the check it out so I went to bed resigned to not MOTing him.

I woke up at 6am and realised he had rubber driveshaft joints, which when they wear can make the noise I heard.
Jacked him up and lo and behold, it was knacked.

I decided to risk driving him for an MOT(with AA card), he made it there and turned out to be nice to drive as well.

After about an hour I got I call from the Test station, they couldn't MOT him as they couldn't find his details on the computer, I would have to come in with the V5 to get him tested

GUTTED!!

My late night was for nothing!!

I ordered the new joints and removed the old knacked ones

I think this may be the source of the noise!!!!

I also gave the underside a quick coat of "MOT in a Tin! or underseal!!

I also need to

- give him a service
- Fix Gearlever rattle
- Convert to neg earth
- Fit radio
- Fit minilites
- Fit new tie-bars

Give him a clean and tidy up

Have been hard at with Pooh!!

Since my last update I've

- Changed the gearbox remote to improve gearchange

- Fitted uprated Tie bars

- Fitted new drive shaft joints

- Fitted new Wipers

- Refitted carpets

(oh and fitted a new green bulb cover to the stalk)

Attached File  pooh_003.JPG   330.32K   25 downloads

Attached File  pooh_002.JPG   328.41K   23 downloads

And after all this work?

He passed - Pooh has an MOT!!

With the drive shaft fixed and the gearchange sorted he really is a nice drive!!

The engine is a bit "tired" and an oil change and some STP has helped but it will need a rebuild

Jobs to do are

- Positive to Neg Earth conversion

- Fit electronic Ignition

- Give a quick service

- Trial fit minilites

- Fit Radio

I hope to do a lot of these tomorrow!!

I'm gonna leave Pooh as standard, I quite enjoy pootling everywhere at 50mph!!

At the moment he's running hot, so have replaced the head gasket, still hot!!

Have just bought him a new rad and water pump, this should cure it(hopefully)

You can buy flushing stuff?

I've back flushed the rad and block as well, still no joy.

to be honest all of the cooling componants look crusty and past their sell buy date so I'm gonna replace em all.

Poos engine has been getting more and more tired lately, couldn't even muster 25psi oil pressure!!

Anyway I'd decided that once Malvern was out of the way I'd build and fit his new lump.

I'd got all the bits together to build a fruity 998.

Block

Bored +20
Crank ground
New cam Brgs
Hot dipped and cleaned

Cam - Sw5 with Alloy vernier

Head 12g295 - ported with big valves and MG metro valve springs

Flywheel - Minisport ulta light with billet backing plate

New clutch

Gearbox - Guessworks refurb with a 3.44 diff

Carb - HS4 with K an N Filter

Exhaust - Maniflow manifold with a twin box RC40

I'm also going to fit a set of 7.5" brakes to him as well.

I've also got some more goodies for him but more of that later!!

Any hoo heres my goodies
