Just bought a mini Italian Job 1.3 carb. the owner told me that after a week or so sometimes the battery needs a jump start. got home with new battery started fine first time. next day took for a drive again started fine no problems with electrics. Today tried to start it. as dead as it could get. tried some tips from haynes manual 0646. all electrics will work, and the lights don't dim when left on. Tried to jump start off moped. Now battery is on charge. Anyone any had trouble like this before if yes would appreciate help.

it could be because the previous owner had it sat on his/her drive for a long time and not used it. this happend when i bought mine, it drove for a day or 2 fine and then the next morning it was flat.

Minicooperman - He has stated he has put a new battery in it.. spud!!
Probably u have a live feed somewherewhen the ignition is turned off. Has it had an Alarm fitted or a different head unit. Sometimes these are wired in incorrently and therefore drain the battery as the feed to them is constant.
The other common one mini's is that either the starter soleniod gives up.. Just hear a click and the engine won't turn over or that the battery terminals are not connected.. The battery terminal one isn't as daft as it sounds, when the welding was done on mine the bodyshop disconnected the battery to do the welding and then just pushed the connections back on, took it out all fine, and then when came back to restart the car the connectors has come off.. :nugget: Also the connections although done up tight all the way sometimes don't make a good connection. All this is jsut guess work. u don't say if the car will turn over.. Is it dead or just flat.. i.e ignition lights come on but won't turn over.. check them igntion lights.. if nothing u have a poor conection I would guess..

Tried recharging the battery and that made no difference. when you turn key nothing it just clicks once. cheers for replies will have to try a new starter solenoid and see where that gets me. ta Jules and minicooperman. will let you know in due course how it unfolds.

Had a mate come over who is a mechanic. diagnosis starter motor stuck after five minutes of rocking back and forth in gear trying to start it and letting the clutch up until it sounded like it would jump itself. then dipped clutch right down tried starting and she fired up. Restarted another 4 times no problems.

Replace the battery. It gives you SO many headaches. I thought my starter motor was f**ked, because it would click once, or whirrr or make random noises everytime, and it turned out to be that all is needed was a new battery.
Believe me, it will cure a lot of your problems, and 25ish pounds for a maintenance-free battery is not a lot!

the battery in it was a heavy duty 4 year guarantee battery and still has masses of guaratee from kwik fit so they can replace it for free. And to right if you ask me.
