Hi guys,

I fitted the new rad and everything, but the car is overheating badly. I've read the other topics here about how to solve that..head gaskets etc... so no worried about that, but I read in one of the replies, you can get the electric fan to run all the time or have it on a switch inside the car. Now I am no electrition.. I can wire a house plug and thats as far as it goes.

How (in very simple terms for a slighty more stupid than normal person) can I wire the fan up to run all the time? ALso when fitting the new radiator the wires to the plug were severed, so dad made a connector and repluged them in. Does it matter which way the wires plug in. There was no distinguishing them so not sure if they are the right way round. Have a feeling that the fan wasnt coming on yesterday when it got really hot. I'll look under the bonnet later after the car has heated up to see if it kicks in

The wires that were cut , are they the ones to the fan sensor ?, if so to make the fan run continuously you need to join these two wires together ,or you can run one wire from each to a switch and have the fan switchable .
Does that make any sense ?

Maybe you’re looking at trying to fix the symptom of a problem rather than the cause of it?

You’ve fitted a new radiator but have you checked the thermostat is working and that the fan is cutting in and out when the car gets hot?
If your car is getting too hot all the time then the electric fan should be on all the time too as it is triggered by the temp sensor that you mentioned. If the thermostat isn’t working then your coolant won’t be circulating when the car gets hot.

Checking each of these should be easy, post back here if you don’t know how to do it.

Cheers

:)

yeah I know how to check that. I'd still like to be able to have control of the fan even when I've got the heating problem fully sorted. I put some radweld in and thats sorted the overheating problem completly..so now I have a bit more time to spare to check the thermostat and replace that little pipe on the head
