You can't fit different diff housings to gearbox casings. They are matched to a casing when they are made and machined to fit precisely. If you damage one both are scrap. So no, you can't swap your diff housings around.

What do you mean by a three piece diff housing by the way?

I think I mean that one has cover plates...



Now you've got me think there is only one design of diff housing isn't there (with slight difference in the cover plates for different types of driveshafts?!).
