Dudes and Lady Dudes
I'm having a bit of a confusing time with the old pimp mobile, after a couple of weeks on bodywork duties, my new exhaust manifold arrived today, so I rolled out the pimp mobile onto the driveway, and dived back into the maelstrom and found my ramps, then one fell appart( it was cakedin rust and very old ), so I called up my man Nick and we disapeared upto halfords in his Beetle and £30 later I was a new set of ramps better off...so the parts were laid out new manifold, new carb and manifold, lcb, and rc-40, and all that was need to do was drive the pimp mobile onto the ramps and battle would commence, however, the damn thing would not start, the battery is charged, there is a good earth connection, the engine turns over like a beaut, but the is no spark from the coil, so we hooked up the gunsons test tune and tested the circuits and such and it appears that there is no power going to the coil (I think...not to good with electrickery...as my testicles will testify :nugget: ) I swapped the coil over for one that I found lurking in the garage, however I can't be sure whether it works or not, could it be a cooked coil, or somthing else?

first thing you need to do is stick a test meter on the positive feed to the coil and see if you are getting any power to it. Then from this you can determine wether its a wiring or ignition fault.
Also we need a little more info as to the engine/ignition setup (ie is it electronic/points etc)

30 years ago in the U.S. we had our scandal with Pres. Nixon and the investagive line used by the news reporters was "Follow the money". In this case, you need to do as Philster said and "follow the electricity". Put away the fancy test gauge, dig out the volt meter and work backwards from the coil to see where you're loosing power. Make sure you have the proper schematic for your car while tracing the wiring.
Bibbadboab, the schematic you have was pinned for a while. There are some issues with it... which is why I believe it's not pinned anymore. I believe that your particular schematic is really intended to show the revised wiring IF you put a standard coil and electronic distributor/ignition in place where a ballast coil and points used to be. Do not follow this schematic if you have ballasted ignition and points.

Point taken DK. It was a wiring diagram 'nicked' from another forum. I will try and have an attachment put on it in the FAQ, where it is now, with your wording. I'm no expert only giving the guy advice from my past experience as to why I got no spark.Bibbadboab, the schematic you have was pinned for a while.
