G'day All,
Andrew from Brisbane in Queensland Australia.
I am currently in the middle of putting a Toyata Starlet GTi (Jap Import) engine into my 1977 Clubman GT, nicknamed "Ël Gato". :cheese:
The starlet motor is approximately 40lbs lighter than the A-series and produces some 134 hp standard from its 1.3 litre DOHC, four valve turbo and intercooled engine.
We have one bloke here in Australia who has got 450bhp out of his - frightening. :saywhat:
If anyone in the UK wants to know more, just post. :fear:
Regards,
Andrew

And the engine. 1.3 litre double overhead cams, 4 valves per cylinder, fuel injected with full EMS. Turbo charged and intercooled standard.
Good for 135bhp off the rack with an easy 250bhp with slight mods.

That looks like one hell of a project. I was wondering, however, arnt the modification of a vehicles structure closely scrutinised in Aus ? I seem to remeber someone talking about Flip-fronting being frounded upon and you had to have all sorts of engineering reports done ???

And this is th engine as it was test fitted into the engine bay.
So as it stands now, I am just waiting on certification from the authorities before I can put the motor in for the last time.
Should all be done within the next 3 months or so.
Stay tuned!!

Guessworks,
You wouldnt believe the number of hoops you have to go through to get something modified here in Australia. And whats worse, is that all states are different.
I had to submit a 67 page report to the Dept of Transport (MOT) just for them to give the green light for me to engage an engineer to certify the thing.
Its a bloody huge exercise let me tell you.
Bungle - my last name is Treloar, so that should ring a few bells in Cornwall.
