Don't know if it's true, but there's a rumour going around (I heard it on my local Mini forum) and it's far too early for April fools day?

I've heard their going to make a small fleet of proper/real Minis and charge 25 grand for them. Not a huge amount when you consider the kind of things Wood & Pickett have created over the years.

They hope to register them on 09 plates too.

Would they pass all the NCAP stuff?

I would have thought it more likely BMW will just make a MINI 50 limited edition or something :D

Well someone recently built a completely new Mini from all new parts and registered it on a new plate. So I guess it is quite possible. Especially for a small business venture perhaps?

Either way I hope it's true and not another boring BMW publicity stunt.

It's mentioned in this months Mini Mag too - bottom right of page 19 - says W&P intend to put them through SVA (there have already been a few put through on SVA, although they are mostly Z-cars). It also says they will have the margrave dashboard, cream leather & wilton carpets inside. Not bad for £25K, really considering that to SVA them they will need to be made from all new parts - it would cost most people that much just for the bits!

Apparently NCAP isn't a compulsory requirement. But I don't know what regulations Wood and Picket might have to meet in other areas. Although I heard that in this country car manufacturers that produce in small numbers don't have to meet EU regulations.

I have known Mike the owner of Wood & Pickett for many years, (he was a major sponsor of my brothers Mini Se7en and Miglia as well as racing several Minis himself) he has built and modified all kinds of Minis including the famous W&P Mini Margrave's. The plan is to have the first all new W&P Margrave 50 Limited Edition built by January on a Heritage Sportpack shell in Rosso Red with MPI engine, followed by 49 more which can be specified to customers colour choice, etc. After an SVA test and VOSA approval it is hoped a 2009 numberplate will be issued although many new owners will no doubt have personal plates fitted anyway!
Looking forward to hopefully seeing the demo car on the W&P stand at some of next years anniversary shows before it gets sold.

Maybe they will use reconed units. I would imagine that an a-series can be rebuilt better that when it cam eout of the factory if done properly

When W&P do this there will be no NCAP consideration to be inplace for the older style mini, there using bits off the last MPI's so that will help. What they will have to do is get them to pass an advanced SVA test, so they will be on a new 09 plate hopefully, however things that they will need to fit is things like collapseable steerting columns is one that jumps out at me from memory. im sure with the clout that W&P have they will know what there doing and get it sorted :P
