Hey,
After months of searching I've finally found my ideal daily - a 1996 'N' 2.0 8V VW Corrado
Its Indian Red, which is a rare colour for Corrado's, with Castellet wheels (expensive option in 15x7) and has a 2.0 8V engine - only 243 Corrados with that engine were made right at the end of the production run. Needless to say, I'm pretty chuffed
Its got a full black leather interior complete with heated seats, electric windows, fully opening electric sunroof and heated electric mirrors and washer jets. Its also got the really useful MFA computer which tells me MPG, oil temperature and outside temperature (very cool to me as I've never had a car thats done that before!)
Its not quickest of the Corrado's, partly because I can't really afford to insure a VR6 and neither can I afford to put fuel in one! However, its the same 115bhp engine as fitted to the Mk3 Golf GTi, so its pretty efficient and very torquey, it'll happily cruise at 30mph in fifth, and as a result I get a combined fuel consumption of this on the MFA:
Pretty good for a mid 90's 2 litre VW I think?
Anyway, there's a few things that I need to sort out, like a blown LED on the instrument cluster, and a slightly sticking front brake caliper, but I'm so happy with it, it drives like a dream, handles soooo well and goes pretty well too, so much better than my old Audi A3 1.8 20V.
Just thought I'd share with you all
Tom

Ooh, thanks for all the compliments everyone
I didn't get on with the Audi. For me the drive was too 'clinical', the 1.8 20V engine had absolutely no torque and it felt far too bulky and cumbersome to drive. It was well equipped and quiet, comfortable etc, but probably too nice for me! I also found myself wanting to play under the bonnet, and there were so many sensors and electronickery that I just felt a bit out of my depth to be honest. I don't like paying garages to do work for me and as I don't own a diagnostic machine I figured it wouldn't be long before I'd need to pay someone to diagnose a fault!
The Corrado has a pretty simple EFI system really, probably on a par with my old Polo in terms of complexity. Its just a single throttle body multi-point injection system with the usual array of sensors which aren't an issue for me. Whereas the Audi seemed to have sensors to tell the ECU what the other sensors were doing - too complicated!
Anyway, I've owned the C 2 weeks now and I still love it

Refurb the runners on the 4 calipers, put on some copper grease and wayhey! That will go up again
I plant my foot to much, i'm probably getting about 15mpg average on my drives

Ooo, I missed this topic the first time round! Looks very nice Tom, another good buy. You're nearly getting as good a mpg figures as I get in my weekend car!
Wonder how that Audi is getting on now....
