Model:Rio
Year: 1993
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):
Does anyone know how the charcoal canister fuel vapour system works on a 93 carb mini? It had a Cat, but its now been taken off as my new engine is from a 89 metro GTA.

I have two lines/pipes that run from the canister, one runs to the breather pipe on the carb with the crankcase breather, the other runs to a separate connection on the HIF38 carb, I now have a HIf44 without this extra outlet. Any ideas how I could use it on the HIF44?

Cheers

Dan

Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?

Simple suggestion would be not to bother with it; remove the cannister and pipes - the metro ran fine without one. ( i removed my cannister on my 93 mayfiar with no adverse effects.)

Well that would be easier, how did you deal with the sealed petrol tank and the fuel return pipe that shoots off under the car?

Hi Dan,
Your fuel cap should be the vented type on that age? (green plastic on the bottom, or it will say vented on it) If not simply replace with a more modern one.

Cheers L400RAS,

is the function of the system to take away fuel fumes and not have a vented cap? it has the non-return flap in the fuel tank filler neck, Idealy I just want to remove it all.

Anyone got any idea when the fuel return pipe from the canister goes to?

Cheers

Dan

I don't think any saloons had vented caps. the tank breather hose was originally just run to under the boot floor.

so the tank return pipe that goes back to the tank from the canister can just be cut nearer the tank so it can vent and make it like the normal tanks?
