Those of you that know me will know that I own a mini called Juicy and have done since 2006. Between '06 and Saturday 20th November 2010, I did my hardest to try and get her back on the road. I used the help of a few forum members but unfortunately, due to many unforseen circumstances, they were unable to continue helping me. I finally got a fair amount of money together and found another forum member who offered to look at her shell for me and give me a welding quote.
On arrival in Surrey, we had a look at Juicy and I heard what I was expecting to hear. The rust had taken hold and I was going to have to pour a bucket load of money into her to get her back, which unfortunately, I just can't come up with at the moment :(
Fortunately though, my attention was quickly diverted when I was told that there was a blue mini for sale "around the back". Nothing to lose I thought and off we went to have a look.
Well, he was gorgeous! 1992 Mini City, 998cc, 22,000 miles on the clock, minimal rust.
As the story goes, someone had already bought him but a few days before he was due to pick it up, a group of arseholes jumped all over him >:( He was dented from top to toe and the buyer decided he didn't want him. After some TLC from the seller, many of these dents were pushed and pulled out. Luckily, none of the paintwork was damaged and he started to look good again. In my opinion anyway. He still has some dents here and there but I'll try and sort them.
Well, my boyfriend, my Dad and me poured over the mini for a good two hours and decided he was in great condition. Dad and Oli took him about for a quick tootle and came back and said he felt and drove really well :o
Having not expected any of this, we negotiated a price and told the seller that I'd let him know by 5pm Saturday, whether or not I was going to buy him. (What a silly idea! I already knew!)
Anyway, we drove Juicy back to Hertfordshire, jumped in the car and drove back to Kent to spend the rest of the weekend working on Oli's Viva. Come 5 o'clock, I spoke to the seller and agreed to buy.
So, ladies and gentlemen, I would like you to meet Ernie:

I'm so pleased! I picked him last night for a wonderful sum under £1000 :P He has an MOT until early December and no tax but hopefully, not for long :D He has a tiny hole in the boot that needs to be welded up and a wheel arch that needs putting back on after it was kicked off and then he should fly through an MOT :o
I'm hoping to have him back on the road by the end of January 2011, meaning I can use the winter period to work on him... what little there is to do.
Plans are minimal. I might put Juicy's interior in him, otherwise, I love him just the way he is :ermm:
Be sure to look out for him and say hello at shows next year :D

Whilst I'm here, I'd like to say thank you to:
- Martin and Karl for trying to help me with Juicy.
- Dave for trying to help me with Juicy but actually selling me Ernie.
- Oli, for being an amazing boyfriend and supporting me all the way

As for the future of Juicy, I'm unsure at the moment. I know one thing though, I DONT want a flood of PMs asking me for bits of her or the remainder. If I decide to sell her off, you'll all know about it ;)

Jen, mini looks fab, but as Bean said, don't loose faith in juicy, i know we all get disheartened with our projects at some point (take a look at my van project thread for a good example) but it'll get there, will just take time. but congrats, Ernie looks lovely!!

Thanks Alex. Still unsure what I'm going to do with Juicy because as far as I can see it, the only sensible way to put her back on the road is by buying a whole new shell which are £4k! We shall see... Going to have to make a plan soon before my Mum goes nuts about me having 3 cars on the drive!

Thanks Spaniard :P

I have indeed bought a ton of panels but now that she's been sitting outside for so long and the weather has taken hold, it really is going to be one hell of a lot of work to get her back on the road and by the time all of the money and effort has been put in, it will be a whole load easier to buy a new shell.
If I was doing the work myself and I could weld to a standard that I could trust, then maybe I would weld all the panels together but it's just not going to happen.
Plus, imagine how happy Juicy would be if she had a whole new body :P
