which air filter is best to go for to improve performance in any way? what are the drawbacks (if any) of each one?
any information would be appreciated. and anyone who has these installed...how hard are they to put on?
Thanks

I have found some very subtle little differences that would make me pick K&N.
Firstly, Pipercross filters I have come across on certain applications can make a whistleing sound when only intaking low volumes of air. For example, in traffic when your only using the accelerator pedal softly. This I imagine will be annoyingly loud in a mini.
Secondly and most importantly, I have found that K&N's clean up really quick with their own brand solution. So to keep it unclogged I'd recommend K&N because I know it works.
But there really isn't a clear favourite between the two, this is just my opinion.

if you go to calvers corner on the minispares site, he gives details of how to modify the standard airbox, and if you do this and fit a k+n replacement element, it flows better than a k+n cone filter, and its not so noisy!does anyone know if by putting a k&n filter in the standard airbox on a 1.3 carb 1993 italian job mini it will make anydifference to the performance whilst keeping the noise down.
