Hi.
I have recently buy a HIF44 carb and I have received it with a big extra part on the side instead of a normal choke.

What is it?? An automatic choke?? Can I use it on a Mini?? What can I do to use it?? How do I connect this unknow thing??

That looks like an auto-choke to me, im affraid i dont know anyone than that, sorry
i think im right saying that some metro's used to have auto-choke

it is an auto choke, you need to plumb in some of the water from the coolant so the auto choke knows when the engine is hot or not. You can see where it is plumbed in from the second picture

Ok so I have to connect the water to the blue plastic part, but what are for the rest of pipes????

i would have to say also that that is an automatic choke but i dont think that you plumb in the water in to the blue bit i think that you have a feed in to the pipes at the side of the blue bit one in and one out.
easiest would be to take a hose from the water pump before it goes in to the bulkhead and in to the heater matrix. take that hose and make it go in to the lower pipe and a hose from the top pipe back to the bulkhead.

i did this on an old fiesta i had by fitting a carb from an old escort

as for the blue thing i am not sure what that is for sorry

It is an FASD, which stands for Full Automated Starting System you're quite right when you're suggesting that it needs to be plumbed in,.. as it bases it's operation on coolant temperature and the throttle position.

These carbs were fitted to Rover V8s, SD1's and land rovers etc etc,.. quite a popular replacement of the Hif6 by all accounts.

The water is plumbed in to the side of the unit through the inlet and outlet pipes, not through the blue secton. This is left bare if i remember correctly.

i would say that A and B are the inlet and outlet for the water as for the others i am not sure i think that the electrical connections are possaböe for the throttle position sensor but i am not sure

I don't think throttle is important to the unit - I reckon just a plain 12v supply and earth is all it needs. Just a guess, though.

Thank link in my last post mentions an adjustment tube with a rubber stopper on the end - I think that's the leftmost item in your bottom picture there.
