I've decided to get myself a new socket set as the 'toy' one I'm using at the moment is just making things difficult... However, there's far too much choice out there for someone as in-decisive as me!

I've seen 3 sets I quite like but don't know which will be best, a 6 point set, a 12 point set, or a 12 point flank drive set. I keep hearing conflicting info into what type I want - only think I know is I want 1/2 so I can borrow sockets off my Dad :)

Here's the 3 I've seen, I have a budget of around £50-£60:

http://www.amazon.co...-...9090&sr=8-5

http://www.amazon.co...7...0820&sr=1-5

http://www.atsite.co...filiateID=10050

Opinions on these and any other suggestions would be appreciated :gimme:

Have a look at Halfrauds professional range, reportedly come with a lifetime guarantee and are of good quality, i have a set of their ratcheting combination spanners and they are nice to use and seem good quality.

I would wait until the Halfords 150pc socket set goes on offer at £100 (half price). It's a nice kit - i've got one. I'm not sure if they are on offer at the moment - so depends how urgent you need them.

+1 me and 4 of my mates that have the same set, not one of them has ever given any problems apart from one screwdriver bit snapping the end, one trip to halfrauds later and it was swapped no questions.

I'd love a Halfords 150pc kit but, like I said, I'm on a real budget here but still don't want to buy a piece of crap

3rd'ed , I have the 100 piece socket set, they are great quality and fantastic to work with. Only had a problem with a ratchet and they replaced it instantly >_<

well. silverline are ok, draper are good if u get the expert range. Halfords are also ok if there on offer because of the warranty etc.
Just get the best you can afford. Look on places like screwfix and machinemart etc also though. I use only snap on for work but i have had Signet in the past.. pretty cheap but they are as good as the snap on stuff
