hi,

right iv recently bought a 1986 city e 998cc and the previous owner changed the standard dials with what he told me were 1275 gt ones. the problem is he didnt have time to fit the cable before the sale, so its currently attached at the dial side but not in the engine bay.

my question is where do i attach the cable and ultimately will the dials work on a 998cc having perviously been on a 1275gt.

as you can probably tell i have know idea what im talking about! so pretend you're talking to an idiot haha

any pictures would be great!

cheers
guys

I bet he didn't have time!!!!

Its an awkward fiddly little job to so and I bet he didn't want to do it!!!

The threaded bit on the engine where the cable attaches to is on the radiator side of the engine, jack the car up and look from underneath and you should be able to see where it attaches to.

You may be able to screw it on from underneath, however if you can't then it may be easier to remove the rad and get at it from the top.

If you don't already have one, get a haynes manual, will make life a shed load easier

Bear with me on this, I dont know how much you know so I'm just covering all areas? ^_^

Make sure you locate the speedo cable first as I'm assuming its dangling around the engine somewhere???? If you cant find it grab it from behind the dash and pull it inwards, you may need to disconnect it from the back of the cluster if you do have trouble pulling it in as its not that flexible.

If you cant get it disconnected at the cluster end try this link Clicky

If your lucky the last owner has at least left it near where it goes, so should be visible from underneath, get it jacked up high enough on axle stands to give yourself enough clearance - use axles dont rely on the jack alone :shy:

If your still struggling your gonna have to take the radiator and fan off as said above, be a good time to flush the radiator and clean it out anyway!

;)
