Crane should'nt be a problem, I'll pick up a 1 Ton clarke or sealey foldaway but looked at a few engine stands and some say "will fit most engines" ???

Is there any makes I should look out for which WILL fit the minis?? Unless they all do anyway??

Cheers

The only issue I found was that sometimes the legs won't go under. I have a Clarke CFC100 which works fine, but there isn't much space to get the legs under the lower arms - this is especially a problem with my Elf which runs 10" wheels, and has a heavy autobox on hydro suspension making it extra low at the front.

The best solution is to put axle stands under the rear subby mounts; you need the working space underneath anyway so this solves it all.

I've done two Mini engine transplants with mine this year alone. It's heavy, awkward to move around and store, but well worth the space it takes up!

Spooky! I'm looking at getting the CFC100 crane from machine mart!!

Does its fold up and tuck away neatly enough without being too intrusive?

Do you have an engine stand aswell?

I brought one of these about 12 months back and done my mini engine easy but it is big enough to cope with any engine so good for bigger car/engines that you may do in the future. Good value aswell in my opinion.

Your right about their prices! I'm gonna pick up the 1 ton crane from them, it'll be more than enough for just a mini. It seems it foldsaway more compact aswell.

Anyone got any info on engine stands though, I always thought they were universal?

I've got that stand and it's huge and really more suited to big V8s and the like. If I was buying a again I would probably go for the three wheeled CES 500A engine stand and save a few quid.

The mountings you get with the stand won't work with a Mini engine as they are designed to fit where the bell housing would bolt up on a conventional engine. I copied the method that I saw Bill Sollis use in the A Series builder DVD and drilled a couple of holes in the mounting plate to allow me to bolt it directly to the block by using the fuel pump mounting holes.

pogie - nice one fella, you've just saved me a load of hassle, I picked up the 1 Ton crane and nearly bought the 750 series engine stand on the way back but thought I better check TMF first for any replies......

:w00t:

The 500 series might need new holes aswell to fit an a-series on it? I'm not sure, but if its cheaper and less bulky then its game on!
