My mate is lucky enough to own a Mercedes Benz 4 x 4. I wish this was my first car :D Anyway, we got bored of him taking up lots of car parking space and showing off his fancy car so blocked him in until we left :closed:

I've never got the whole- I'm going to buy you a car- actually, make that a really expensive and nice car for you son/daughter. I worked a saturday job and my day off college during the week for £2.50-£3.50 an hour to pay for my first car (mini city E costing £450 and £900 to insure!) and all the running costs, I didnt get a penny from my parents and I dont regret it at all! Was the best time of my life so far having few worries and a great little (extremely slow) car, was my pride and joy :D I dont mind parents helping out but there's too much imo!

My cousins on the other hand who get to use daddies cars have crashed and/or broken them all, his 53 plate discovery was written off by one of them just last week and he still hasn't got to pay any of the costs of the hire car he had, excess etc. I always thought that was how you really learnt lessons- the hard way.

I agree too  I bought my mini and pay for insurance, tax, mot and maintenance. I get £20 a week petrol money but that's only the equivalent of what mum would usually give me for the bus :)

The money for my car came out of my savings, thanks to the grandparents. However, I plan on paying quite a lot of this back in because I've been taking a lot out to get my car looking the way I want it to as quickly as possible. I don't get much money off my parents, just a small bit to help towards petrol costs (The same as Adam; saved from expensive bus fares).

I'm guessing your friend is 17/18? A stupid car for somebody that age. I bet the insurance costs a bomb. I can't believe you said you wished that was your first car though! I'd much rather have a mini and I'd be surprised if your mini doesn't get admired more than your mates tank!

More money than sense obviously.

Maybe their thinking is he'll be safein such a tank.

No *******er else will be though if he has an accident.

Which is likely for a 17 year old with limited driving experience and a pimp mobile.

There used to be an all girls finishing school just up the road, which was nice, and one young lady happened to be the daughter of a banker. She wrote off 2 Merc 190 sports before her 18th. All she leaned was that daddy would just keep buying her more cars.

yeah agree with most of the comments above.
i went out n got a job less than a month after i turned 16 and worked there for 2 years while going through 6thform, i started on £3.20p/h and finished on £4.10p/h.
My mom and dad had saved me some money since i was a young lad and i was allowed to use that to buy my mini and they said they would pay the first months insurance for me and get it Taxed and MOT'd, after that it was upto me to pay for any repairs ect.
anyway about a few months after i finished 6th form i got a job at a civil engineers company and had to drive a fair few miles per day and my rents had a panic attack and bought me a more "reliable" car (crackshaft broke massive oil leak and whole engine needed replacing) non the less i appreciate this all because i learnt the value of money and how hard it is to come by.
i know alot of my mates just claimed EMA went to there lessons did nothing and wasted all there money, theyve now gone uni and are doing the same all over again

Honestly i would much rather drive a Mini than a Mercedes. The Mercedes is definitely a good car, but it lacks all the history and fun factor that i love about the Mini. >_<

im the same as all you above. Am having to save for my first car and stuff, doubt my rents will give me any money towards any of it. Im working around 15 hours a week at the local iceland am on £5.64 an hour. I no for sure that my clubman estate << wount be ready in time for when i can drive (around 7 months) so will have to get a little runabout (mates got a mk2 polo coupe that hes selling cheap) im hopeing some of my family will help me out with abit of insurance money as i will pay for fuel and stuff. But yeah hate kids that get baught cars that are top of the range and there just stuck up you know whats

You obviously havent driven an AMG, or seen the history of the company then.

For example there is only one reason the current Mercedes has gull wing doors, its because the 1952 Mercedes 300SL had them.
The SLS also has, THE MOST POWERFUL N/A production V8 engine ever fitted to any car from factory, and it will probably stay that way forever due to the way emissions regulations are going.

I love my mini and drive it allot, but i am also privileged enough to have the use of my mums Mercedes, and to have also completed the Mercedes driving academy scheme at brooklands (i was the 3rd ever driver to achieve black level membership). And i have driven pretty much every car in their range.
I think that allows me to say that a merc is one amazing car to drive, and can be compared to a mini in terms of enjoyment to drive.

Still rather have the mini though :)

But i do have an inspired engine conversion idea for a mini van involving something from a merc.
