Chris, whats this for and where does the wire go to? Mine doesn't have a wire running from it, but the terminal is there, just curious

Great project by the way

Temperature sender unit. The tag that you have is the end of the sender unit itself, which you can unscrew from the head and soak your feet in water in the process. The wire coming from it goes (via whatever) to the temperature gauge.

Ahh I get you  So when I fit my Smiths temperature gauge it will be wired to that

Certainly will! Have you not got a temperature gauge at the minute? Isn't yours around the same year as mine.. mine has a centre binnacle with speedo, oil and temp gauges? Or isn't mine standard?

Mines simply a centre speedo. 90mph clock, ignition and cold start light, fuel gauge. I am hoping to fit my oval centre soon, with vacuum gauge and temperature gauge  Will also fit a tacho on the steering wheel column in a pod  Retro is always best!

What year is yours then? I'm intrigued.. mine's a 1979 Mini 1000 on the logbook and I notice yours is an 850, maybe 850's didn't have an oval binnacle? Or was it to do with the age of the car... I had a '72 850cc which just had the centre speedo and nothing else.

Nice...

Love the wheels, think I'll go for that look too, instead of alloys.
I've been told powder coating them white would work well?

Yeah, my speedo setup is original, and yes its the last of the 850, the Mini City. 1979'

Today I had some more work done on the clutch.
This isn't a comprehensive list, I will update it when I can be bothered getting the invoice out of the car

New clutch arm fitted & new pins
New cooling fan fitted
New fan belt fitted (free of charge)
New Thrust bearing/diaphragm
Few other nuts and bolts were replaced/tightened.

Didn't get her back till about 9.45pm tonight  and then took her for a good hour's drive. The clutch is absolutely spot on now! Which I am very happy about.

Asked Steve about getting the piston rings replaced. He said while the head is off etc it may as well be more or less re-built, and possibly may need a rebore as well as new pistons. He said for everything you're talking about £1k plus  but the engine is running fine as it is and he said I may as well wait until (or should I be optimistic and say if?) it blows up. Can get a tested 1275 and box supplied and fitted for £600.

Anyway that's for another day. She is running perfect for now. :xxx:

All I need now is my Cobra Classics on Saturday (fingers crossed) and I'm "in business" so they say.

S'from Minispares  also just put a boot lid cover on too, which smartens it up a bit.

Gave her a quick wash today, piccies:

As you'll notice the pillocks who changed the metal tag thingys on the tyres moved them  so the wheels need re-painting... but they needed doing anyway so thats no big deal.

On the list for tomorrow is:
Radio aerial (special one :) ) and new wiper arms & blades - these are coming in the post so may not get them 'til later
Possibly replace the wiper washer jets - if I can be bothered being gentle with the existing ones which have completely perished!
Going to Huddersfield Mini's to buy some new seats :o

Well well well, today I think has been my best day so far on this "project" if you can call it that
Went and met Ed and "The Bean" and we convoyed to Huddersfield Spares... where I got my new seats
Bought two front seats, matching rear seat covers, locking subframes, and a parcel shelf cover  got a very good deal on the price too after a bit of haggling so can't go wrong. If you don't ask you don't get, right? :teehee:
So I didn't get back till the afternoon but I decided to fit my seats anyway.. which was surprisingly easy! The hardest part was fitting the subframes to the seats, as the holes didn't quite line up, but my everlasting (!!) patience paid off. The seats are really, really comfy. Grip the "back end" quite nicely :) :P !

A reminder of how the interior was a few weeks ago:

After a lot of hard work, not just the cosmetic stuff but treating the floors properly, painting, wiring, underlay, etc etc...
Here is what she looks like now!! :( :ermm: :dontgetit: What a transformation! ...

The seats have a small cobra logo on them, but it's only very small... and it's grey, so isn't strikingly obvious when you look at them:

I am actually very proud, my first real progress on a Mini and I think i've kept it pretty much retro, but with modern bits like the stereo, light in the boot, comfy seats, etc.

Here's a few pics from earlier when I met with Ed & The Bean :dontgetit:

Good stuff, and I got my radio aerial and wiper arms & blades today, so I've got those to fit, and that's pretty much it on the 'near future' list, all we need now is some sunshine to enjoy the car properly! :ermm:
