My trailer known as trev, started as a mini my neighbours got for spares in november 07 after it had hit a lamp post,



after being stripped of most parts including a cooper interior compmotive allycat 13" wheels, and a broken 850 engine and front subframe, my neighbour wanted rid and gave the shell to me for free to make into a trailer. so with no front subframe, or rear suspension we strapped the front end to a old generator set trailer and towed it 3 miles to our garage



there was some minor front panel bending in the process!!



but we soon pushed it out!!



It then took me and my dad about 4 hours to strip the rest of the mini, cut the roof off and then cut it in half!!







here what we were left with



After a bit of poking around, i found a few horrors that this sweet little mini was hiding, the boot floor was rotton, and had been patched ontop of the rust , and worse still the rear valance had been patched on each end of the valance, with the original left underneith. and trev had been rear ended at some point, with the rear panel made of filler







i took the rear bins out and my dad welded a strengthening bar in across the b pillars to stop the body from distorting



and found yet more holes:




So it was time for me to learn how to weld!!!, so my lovely dad thought me how to weld and set me to work in repairing the holes in the rear panel (excuse the dodgy welding, it was my first job, and i forgot to turn the gas on )

with the rear panel repair, we turn trev on end and removed the rear subframe:





i then removed the rear valance closing panels etc, to show the extent of the boot floor rust



i then cut the boot floor ready for the boot floor repair panel and welded it in place





i then put a new rear valance and closing panel on the easy way, on a upside down mini!!

so with rear end solid, i worked my way down the rest of the boot floor repairing all the rusty areas, with new metal




With that done, i turned to the heal board, with was rotton thru, i replaced it in sections to retain the mount points, and it worked the trailer tow straight, at the same time i replaced the over sills intop of the original sills!!







i then repaired the hole in the rear quarter

with the majority of the body solid, i repaired around where the rear window goes and removed the lip that the rubber sits on


then i took the rear parcel shelf off, cut it up and mould it to be used as strenghen on the top of the rear panel:




then i took out the rear seat:



boxed in the b pillers




Repaired the rear shock mounts





then with a solid body (and a welder out of gas), i dug out my subframe from my mini, which we didn't use as we had a spare brand new one

i cleaned it up painted it and put it on the trailer:








note the metro wheels on back to front to clear the radius arms!!!

so then i welded on the front panel, which is a bonnet from a peugout 406!!



Then me and dad set about the lid, after the minis roof accidently got taken away by the scrap man, my local mini centre sold me a complete roof and a section of a roof

we then cut these down to roughly half each, and then added a little section of roof at the very back of the roof, to avoid it being too straight there



we weld it up, added strengthening, cut the front down and added a front panel to it:






After many pots of filler, trev got some coats of primer




and finally a coat of green and white to match my mini

so on the thursday before riviera run, we started to put trev back together





then the day before we were due to leave for riv run, we bolted the roof back on, put the archs on and brought him home

and the next day, we went to newquay, with a the paint still drying:

so thats that, one trailer made in just under 5 months






and he lives quite happyly behind my mini



my future plans are to board him out, complete with a stereo, speakers and greens LEDs, trimed in black and silver vinyl to match my doorcards:
