Hole'y cow that is like cheese.......

bet you used a fair amount of drill bits.

interested to see how your over comming the rear false floor problem...

more pics required.

Yeah, a fair few were burnt out by the time I'd finished!

I'll have some pictures after this weekend, the engine has sold and the guy is coming down on sunday to collect. I'll have it to a bare shell by Monday.

Anybody need a front or rear subframe??

Les.

Well....after the engine came out Friday night, I wasted no time in stripping the rest of the estate down.

Last 2 pictures show the rear floor pan area, similar to saloon. Next steps are to remove the doors, windows, loom and pedal box.

How much weight did you lose from drilling the sub frame?

First thoughts on the bulkhead involve just a flat sheet running from floor to roof height with perspex window (similar to pickup).

Undecided on the rear door(s) - have a pair of fibreglass ones and a one piece.

After a cracking day out at Curbrough on Thursday. (where I bought the rear arms, driveshafts and anti-roll bar from Z cars) It gave me a real buzz and incentive to get on with the project but not done anywhere near like I'd hoped this weekend. I finally got the shell stripped, just the loom and the pedal box remains now!
I was going to cut out the rear end ready to accept the rear frame but I think I'll need to add some strength to the rear inner sill area first. I'm going to get some plates made up either Monday/Tuesday and hope to have them in by Wednesday night.

I also removed the lower dash rail but ran out of cutting discs half way through stripping the spot welds on the dash cage :D

A couple of grainy pictures (camera phone) but not much to show really.

Another worthwhile purchase this week........Carpet! - better than lying on the concrete floor!

Les.

Well, got my plates yesterday and set about welding them last night. Got a bit excited with the grinder and ended up taking the rear out ready. Was really happy with the stiffener plates, used 3mm in the end and its put masses of strength into the sills.

There was a fair amount of rot in the rear heelboard area that I'll need to address over the next week. Will also need to stabilise the rear end as there is a fair bit of sideways movement in the rear quarters!

More to follow,

Les

The sideways movement will be eliminated when teh rear cage goes in and bolted down, don't worry about that.

looks good. I would spend all my time beating the rust and Making sure your not going to have to restore it again in couple years time..

Disaster! :w00t:

Ok, well I got the frame ready to go in, lifted up the rear end (surprised at how light it really was), got the cage under the shell and offered it into position.

 whats wrong, it fitted in MarkRally's car o.k

These photos might explain:

Yes, you've guessed it - The Estate roof tapers in towards the rear doors more so than a saloon!

It does fit but it is very tight, make that very very very tight :D

I'll have to get it back out and see about a new rear hoop, its but a bit of a dampener on the project for now as I've run out of cash and Christmas is upon us. I'll have to see if Santa is feeling generous this year! ^_^
