Carb Rebuild

I have got a spare carb in the garage which is doing nothing and is the same type that is on my car currently, i was wondering how hard is it to rebuild the carb and what will i need to do it, the carb currently if it has not been done before will have done 106k so could do with an overhall.

You need a genuine SU carb re-build kit. There are different levels of kit, dependig on how much of the carb needs replacing. If it's that old then it may well need the full works including throttle spindle bushes, but it might not. It there's any radial lash at all in the spindle then it needs bushing. Buy the kit, strip the carb down and send the main castings to SU for them to clean and fit the bushes, then you get it back and build it up. It'll be exactly like a brand new carb at a fraction of the cost, and it's quite easy to do if you have even the slightest mechanical ability. SU's are brilliant in their simplicity, so there's nothing complex about building one up provided you have all the right parts for a Mini installation.
