Do tweeters make a difference? if so also where is the best place to put them

Best place for tweeters are some where in the front. So they'll give the impression that the sound is coming from the front, as the location of a bass source is not easy to identify as a treble sound source(tweeter)
hope this might help

Anybody got any tips on sound staging and imaging?

im guessing its not a case of point the speaker at you and of you go???.....

should all the speakers point to the centre of the environment?

as far as i have gathered, one of the things you need to do is to position the speakers in such a way as to minimize the difference in distance between the speakers and the listening position (usually driving seat)

pretty sure this has been answered a few times...

I'm angling my pods up, and then they're being bolted to the dash rail so I can fiddle with the angle they point into the car for the best sound.

would a 10 inch free air sub fit on the partial shelf and would it sound ok.
do free air subs sound ok

Another question asked a lot...

Free air subs aren't generally recomended, they dont sound as good as one in an enclosure. If you want bass without using boot space, you might want to consider an 8" or two under the rear seats...

The best (and easiest) space-saving option sub wise is to have two Elemental Designs 7kv.2 6" subs boxed under the rear seats, or two Genesis Profile 69s in the parcel shelf.

The latter is the option I'm going for in my install.

Ive currently got a 12"sub, 6x9, and component front speakers, the 6x9 are really only to create good all around sound and for people iun the back but there not that important, i currently run all speakers, except obviously my sub of the head unit, Alpine 4x45watt, how much difference in quality do you think i will find if the are amped, its really only for quality not for sound.

Great guide by the way.

thanks

I tried a free air sub and it was useless, I cashed it in and got an alpine compact sub (avalible from CAD. Linky: http://www.caraudiod...ao3pkk881fj19d1 ) and bolted it to the boot wall opppsite the fuel tank if you were really worried about space you could bolt it to the parcelshelf but then it's facing the wrong way so not sure what the effect would be. However it is still not as good as a full size enclosed sub so it is only ever a compromise, but what isn't  ???

Only what I've done, I would recommend sampleing a compact first just to make sure it's the sound your after.

Good Luck  ,

B.

I have a set of Vibe components, all correctly wired up to their cross overs.. However they do not seem to be doing their job to its full extent. The low range speakers in the back are playing some treble and vice versa for the tweeters attempting bass. Consequently the tweeters are distorting much earlier than they should.
On my cross overs i have a switch for 3 or 6 db, or something like that without checking i cannot be sure. Can any one enlighten me as to why my cross overs are not doing everything they should.
Thanks

It sounds like the crossover points are wrong for the speakers, are the crossovers for those speakers? Do you have a model number on the components? Some crossovers have an attenuation set up so you can reduce the high end frequencies a bit. Do you know the drop off rate for the crossover points? (-12db, -18db etc)

what do you think of the head unit? http://www.caraudioc...01r_p-23613.htm

all ideas are welcome, i have been given some pioneer approx 50 watt rms speakers but unsure on quality, could be used if nessesary:)
