Lol

Ah-hem

Roofless, Did you use any of the mini wiring loom on yours?

I would rather use the R1 loom in its entirety, adding on bits like wipers and stuff to it.

Bonjour! :ermm:

Bonjour! :)

we used the R1 loom for all engine based shenanigans what with the ecu and such, but mini loom for all ancillaries like lights, indicators, heater / cooling, radio etc etc.

Pro-mo modified my R1 harness so that I had just what I needed and John at covics.co.uk patched it all in and made it beautiful.

I would keep the mini loom if its in good nick, and just utilise the elements from the R1 harness that you actually need otherwise it could get very very complicated. :D

Hello!

Posted Image

Trevor from Elite Windscreens came today armed with a sheet of polycarbonate, jig-saw, polyurethane adhesive, new front screen with sun strip and new front seal.

When all was measured up we had a gap of 17mm behind the 6mm polycarbonate, and the channel where the old sliding glass when was 12mm deep.

So I called Walker Rubber and Plastics LTD Clicky and ordered 6 meters of 12mmx17mm strip to pack in behind the polycarbonate, not only to hold glass in place while glue sets but as a nice finish.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Little bit of piggery pokery later and look :)

Posted Image
Posted Image

Also did the tailgate as that was acrylic and it had faded and splintered

Posted Image
Posted Image

And the new screen and seal

Posted Image

Now!

One of the reasons (other than the old glass didn't keep the rain out and it look nice as a one piece unit) for changing to polycarbonate was the weight saving aspect.

Now we are at 10kg saved so far, without taking into the fact of the engine.

Old glass weighed in at... 19kg for both sides.

I have removed runners and old seals to the rubber makes up for that.

Polycarbonate, for both sides..... 5kg!!!!

I nearly fell over in shock!

14kg lighter than standard glass, looks better, wont fade and bullet proof clicky

So we are at 24kg lighter. Will do sums for engine weight etc soon!

Trevor also said that he can do the door glass in polycarbonate. So in a week or two will be doing that as well!

That is all for now!

Well chuffed with that!

Bonne-sweet :o

I have only got the back done as I need to sort front valance and also hole needs cutting for the relocation of the rad.

Got finished at Johns last night (Thanks John and Damon for the late one!) and have good news!

Clutch slave cylinder fitted including all linkages (John did not use any swear words.... honest) Bit tricky but John is an ex gynecologist, which helps :P

Gear linkage is nearly mastered, although out of the car still able to work it out.

Carbs on and snug. Need the rubber bits from the old air box to mount the new K&N Filter, forgot to get them!

And is all. Getting closer and closer by the day eh!

Bonjour! >_<

now would be a good time to think about sound / heat protecting the bulkhead / toeboard, the manifold runs very very close to the steel work and its something we think we should have done prior to fitting the engine.

not sure what or how to do it but it definately needs something.

mange tout, mange tout

Ello!

Sorry it has taken so long for an update!

Mini1.3 -

Thanks mate! It is going to be a bit of a head turner! I am sticking with the yellow. Tailgate going to be yellow eventually ;)

Engineer (Jeff) -

35" and 4x4 Drive? Fergie Grey! Na

Jeff Thanks so so much for welding in the strut brace/harness mount! It’s..... LARVLY

Any ways...

I had a new toy turn up last week...

Posted Image

An Acewell ACE-3991 - R DigiDash

This comes with connection to the Yamaha Speed sensor and stuff! :o

Posted Image

Not too deep either.

This will do everything I need and will be my only gauge! Mental eh!

Engineer, you say 35"? Might just have enough clearance now!

Posted Image

Hehe

Yesterday was an action packed day! Great thanks to JohnnyP!

The old sub frame and engine ---- GONE!

Used Johns Rather sexual Engine hoist with strops around some little strengthening bits in the engine bay, un done all mounts, steering column and rack and hoist away

Posted Image

Then rolled the shell onto a couple of Vitara alloys each side and there she rests, for now ;)

Posted Image

The engine bay was rather filthy! Oil and poo which had been there for years!

Before
Posted Image

And now degreased
Posted Image

Just needs a good rub down and paint in there (Satin black)

Apart from that, not much else!

Got Mr. glass man coming Monday to fit my polycarbonate.

Will let you know how it goes!

Bonjour!

thanks mate picked my mini up on thursday need reshelling mine will look as nice as urs one day aint going to get loads of work done this weeked tho going to cannon hill show

Soundproofing....

I have taken the decision not to sound proof. I want to be force fed the high-revving R1 engine song into my brain!

Anyway ear defenders are lighter than lagging!

On the heat side of things "I have a plan"

Mr Chris (You know who you are, and I owe you a pint) Got me some titanium sheet a few weeks back after a little brain storming at the pub....

Posted Image
Posted Image

I am going to mount this with a small gap between it and the bulkhead to form an air barrier, hopefully deflecting heat underneath the car.

Oh and it is very, very light! :geek:

On Friday I spent the afternoon preparing the rear floor pan ready for a coat of Hamerite satin black, and today I painted...

Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Need to remove Next is going to be removing everything from the dashboard including all the heater matrix and stuff, so I can treat a few little bits of surface rust and have a paint, at the same time painting the front floor pan.

All for now!

Arc de Triomphe ;)

Unsure of cost for polly carb for doors as we haven't had a measure up yet. But when all measured up will get a price and let you know.

Will be saving a template so if you want any I can get some more made up
