First Time Insurance

You would probably find someone after hours and hours of looking and phoning people but it would be VERY expensive. I probably could have insured mine at 17 but decided not to! basically because i couldnt afford it so didnt bother trying.

I'll be driving mine this year, im now 19, many people turned me down but i have had a quote of £2k thats agreed value blah blah. They wouldnt insure me on a classic policy or anything like that. Just a normal policy with all mods declared.

All thats coming from someone who owns one and has been in your shoes so thats your answer. You'll get insured if you can find someone to and if you have enough money!

Sorry is this for a VTEC or a 1380cc?

All you can do is ring around and try, do loads of searching, think of all your options. Accept that alot of companies will just laugh and it will be very expensive. You could do what i did. I started building at 16-17 my dad put it on the road and drove it, i drove it on a track day. Times gone so fast now im old enough to be able to afford the insurance.

Sounds like a good idea actually... because I think if I started now I wouldn't have it finished in time for when I can drive anyway!

Ive got my mini insured as a non standard engine replacment.

This was defined as an engine from any vehicle that the car was not originaly equiped with.

So when I rang and said I want to put my 1380 engine in they said, no problem, I said realy any engine? any engine sir.

So is the same for a 1275 as vtec for me. It's quite cheap for me aswell at 19.

If you go enough money you can get insured on any car

Vtec - hmmm i would say doubtful but then again if you've got the cash i would suspect someone would insure.

1380cc - my 1275 cooper was £1400 fully comp my insurance when i was 17 and had passed my test. So could be like £2000 cause its gonna have value aswell with all the work.

But....think of this.....why do you want a vtec mini at age of 17? Its not a proper real mini if you get me, its a ridiculous amount of power for a 17 year old to have on the road and then what have you got to look foward to when you're older? a ferrari? perhaps so if you have £3-4k insurance costs each year ^^ for the vtec.

Just enjoy a 998/1275 and dont waste thousands to drive them.

Strangely HIC wouldnt insure me. But i went to adrian flux who insured me with a company that HIC insured my dad with a year before!

But....think of this.....why do you want a vtec mini at age of 17? Its not a proper real mini if you get me, its a ridiculous amount of power for a 17 year old to have on the road.

Why buy a mini at all if you're not going to drive it like it should be? If you don't want to drive a standard car, why don't you go and buy something else. Why do you need a VTEC at 17? To keep up with your mates? There is no viable reason at your age.

Learn how to drive first then put something stupid under the bonnet if you still feel the same after a few years of driving.

I can see your points. I just liked the idea of a vtec mini! and no not to keep up with my mates. I don't agree with driving really fast! I just want something a bit more 'custom' if you know what I mean? I'm sure I could keep up with my mates with a 998 cc!!

So...your buying a SERIOUSLY fast car....to drive normally....cause you don't agree with driving fast?

So....your paying a fortune, losing the sound of a Mini....AND your not going to drive it fast?

Just out of interest do you have a VTEC Mini? If you want something custom get a 998 and put a custom gear knob on.

When I was looking at doiing a Vauxhall engine I came across this. They quoted a fortune more for a non standard engine but didnt care what it was!?

my mate was 18 and he got a 1380 insured, on a limited milage policy, under his dads name with his as a named driver

Technically he isnt insured... his dad is and he is just a named driver. In a accident if they find out he is doing the most miles there will be trouble.
