I am just 18.
I am insured on a 97 1.3 Mayfair for 1300 with Quinn.
Now ok, it is standard but! I called up asking about modifications and pleasantly discovered that they do not add modifications to my premium if they do not affect the performance of the car. Wheels (i was careful with 10's as some say they do improve the performance) , arches, color, seats anything really. But anything that alters the performance, even an air filter bumps up my premium.
If your car has had no engine, suspension mods then they might be the insurers for you.
:)

well you know what your mums driving from now on then don't we :)
don't always trust the comparison sites, they often has wrong info loaded for cars, such as thinking 's' stands for sport on certain mk5 golfs.
much better off calling around and explaining your mods fully.

there's lots of companies like:
http://www.performan...-insurance.aspx

the other thing to do is ring around smaller insurance companies as some are glad for the business unlike big brand ones.
avoid any that can afford to advertise on tv as a rule :)

I dont bother with compare sites, on both occasions with 2 different cars I have managed to get cheaper quotes phoneing individual insurers. The insurers involved in compare sites seem to want to phone you now aswell and get you a cheaper quote, I know the phone didn't stop ringing from one half hour to the other after using go compare.

Also even though they dont seem to look at the rest of the car when checking the damage I wouldn't be suprised they have a sly eye looking over it.

Paul.

my golfs number plate is listed as a sport model on all comparison sites, although dvla have it at the correct spec.
so if i try get any quotes from a compare site they're always about a grand plus.

also if you phone an insurer directly you can often say you've been given a better offer else where, and will they match it?

burnard: bike eh? tut tut. maybe it's a coupe as its 2 doors with no decent boot space?
i'll check my docs later and see what mines listed as.

the v5 is pretty starved of infomation

# or owner: 7
engine size: 998cc
fule type: petrol
wheelplan: 2axel-rigid body
colour: red

i really don't know too much as the previous own wasn't too mechanicly inclined so (or so they said) didn't touch a thing.

hi, enter your number plate with no spaces and its a rover by the way :teehee:
the dvla seem to think everything is made by rover for some reason. >_<

anyway:

The enquiry is complete
The vehicle details for H--------- are:

Date of Liability 01 01 2010
Date of First Registration 01 06 1991
Year of Manufacture 1991
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 998CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour RED
Vehicle Type Approval null
The information contained on this page is correct at the time of enquiry.
Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate £68.75
12 Months Rate £125.00

does this sound like your car? this means that the dvla has it correctly and the insurance people have it wrong.
so you can tell any insurer to re-check with the dvla now.
have u tried admiral by the way? i'm with them as i said prev. and they're pretty good with mini's.

yep sounds like mine, thanks >_<

i have tried admral through confused and it's around 2705 quid third part F&T

i think the reason the premiums are soo high is to do with where i live, middlesbrough is well a "poo" hole, but where i live is rather nice, low on crime and what not, but i think as soon as they see middlesbrough they shoot the cost up

ask about discounts for getting a good alarm. if you spend a couple of hundred on the alarm it should pay itself off quickly.
otherwise it's down to things like can you garage it at night, get your yearly millage down aswell, there's a big saving to be made there.
else just ask them what you can do to bring the quote down, be interested to hear what they said?
i saved 100 quid on my golfs insurance for having my gf on it.
else stick one of your parents on it maybe.

i'd call up a broker first and let them see what they can get it for.
even if they take a small % they could get you good savings.
don't give up >_<
