It is a complete wreck. The shell is rotten, no drivers floor, drivers door has nothing to mount to, no sills, roof corners rotten through...... you get the idea.
The car has the original engine and interior. Is it worth buying and what do you think its worth?
I'm not sure if the body is repairable or not. Couldn't get any pictures as its at the back of a dark garage.
Any advice please?

it all depends on what your willing to pay, and if your in for a brave resto! an original mk1 cooper with log book, and all matching numbers can go from anything from £400 upwards, as they are getting harder to come by, especially one owner from new examples! be carefull moving it though, as if its as bad as you say, it has the potential to collapse

Job one might be to weld some brace bars in place in situ....

Thanks guys, I assume if I reshelled it into a later shell it wouldn't be worth much.
you can pick up mk1 shells from time to time, and you could always re-shell into one of them if you can find one, just make sure you change all the relivant panels/parts on the shells to keep it as mk1 cooper, as forgive me if im wrong, there are some slight differnces (differnt fittings etc) between shells?

Not sure what to do yet, I'm not sure what it is worth as it stands. Dont want to rip them off.
OK, No problem.
I agree with the values posted.
If it is a basket case then the value is deeply effected and the fact it is one owner if it is beyond ecconomical repair is irrelivent.
As you say reshelling it into a new shell would effect the value and would probably cost more than it's worth. Reshelling it into a existing mk1 shell is known as ringing.
All the best

A 997 cooper that is rotten to the core going for over 1500 ????i would agree to pay what you think it would be worth in your own mind what its worth then if the guy has a price in mind he will but in with that but ive known them to go for well over 1500 so its down to what you want to pay at the end of the day
Maybe that is the price achieved on Ebay but I doubt that is how much money exchanged hands especially in the current climate?

surely the number plate has to be worth a bit?
It probably would be... but you can't transfer the plate off a car unless it has an MOT.

And a current V5C, and if it has been registered with the DVLA on the current compueter system.surely the number plate has to be worth a bit?
