Hi Ben,

great project, are Zcars doing the turbo kit for your engine? should be terrifingly quick! Which rear wheels are you using, JBW by any chance? You've the same rear brakes as my kit but the wheels i've bought don't clear my calipers without a huge spacer, mine are 13" x 7" Superlight Mk2 from midland wheel supplies.

Adam.

Hi Adam
The Wheels I have are Midland 7+13 and using the Calliper for hand brake
later when I do the Turbo conversion I will fit 4 pot will-woods as well, but I did not have to use a spacer though

Yes I will collect all I need to do the Turbo like rods, pistons, clutch basket, drive shaft, inter coolers ect
and get Z CARS to build it back and then run to make sure all is well

Regards Ben.

Hi izzy
Yes I had many Minis over the years, and now having the Money
its time to have a Project I have always wanted, I cant wait for phase 2 for the Turbo, but after it has been on the road for a short while
I hope to have it ready for its SVA early next year and get a 2012 plate, due to work commitments I cant get do it any sooner.

Regards Ben

Hi Ben,

How are you finding preparing to get a 2012 plate? Does everything have to be brand new? This is a route I have thought about but sounds very difficult, not to mention costly.

Ben

An SVA is a Single Vehicle Approval, it has now become the IVA Individual Vehicle Approval.

Essentially if you build a car then it has to be tested to see if its not made of card and chewing gum.

If the car is made form a few different cars it gets a "Q" plate. Some insurers make you pay a little more.
If the car is made from all new bits it can get a year plate "2011" and it is essentially a new car (no MOT for 3 years I think) - this is what can be done for a kit car.

I'm simplifying things a bit, full details can be found:

as far as I know, having a used Engine and everything else is new
is how I get a 2012 plate,
this is why I went down this way after talking to a lot of people and Z Cars prior to my Build

Thanks very much.

so i presume that this would really increase the value of the car, but is it worth doing taking into account the cost for an SVA/IVA?

Yes I suppose it does put the Value up a bit,
but that is not the reason I went this way, anyway I get home next week so hoping to take my Kit down to z cars
for some work to be done, as I just cant get near it when home for such a short time, Family always comes first

seams like I have had this Kit sitting for ever, cant knock back work when it comes in.

Regards Ben.
