active responce....im in it.. im forever looking for spares or repair minis to do up and sell. a have seen a few similar but nothing to give me any good leads, i got all our clubs in the midlands......a5 minis (my own club) cv1 minis, and central every time there is one that pops up that we might come across. as soon as one does i post it on the clubs Facebook sites where people normally see it within 24hrs.

i spotted one of my mates car that was put onto of a recovery truck when i was on the way back from work one satuarday. and i was like "what the hell! thats robs car." and tailed the truck that went straight into a unit that was closed as soon as the recovery truck was in there. as i did not have his number i phoned one of my other mates to tell him. and where his car was now. (he was shopping at the time in town) anyway. he came to me in a cop car. and said that is where i brought it from. and i explained to him i bet they had two sets of keys. and when the cops busted them. they had. and even retained the logbook in their name. which explained why rob never got his v5c through the post after countless times phoning the dvla for about 3 months. luckly he had a signed resept from the previous owners and had to dig out a bank statment that matched the amount. and another one of our mates as a witness when buying the car.

very sticky i know but rob did get it all sorted out and his car back. and the previous owners where arrested for theft and committing fraud plus the cops found out they re-advertised robs car on ebay 3 days before they stole it back.

all it takes is keeping your eyes peeled. there is still hope yet.

this reminds me of what happened to my gran.... she had her metro stolen from a car park then a few days later my dad was driving along and ended up behind the car! the stupid guy was just driving it round the same area so my dad called the police and just followed him until he got arrested... good to see they get what they deserve and goes to show there is hope!

Really hope you get it back, i hate hearing about stolen minis.... dont know what id do if someone stole mine :D

A club members mini was stolen from nottingham over the last 24hrs. When i get more details tomorrow i will start a new thread for him. He's the most devoted club member we have, and attends virtually every show. Which is pretty amazing for a guy in his 70's who's owned many minis over the years.

The club and its members brought him the mini after his got totalled by a woman on return from the afternoon school run. Its the same silver as a Mini 25, has a big RAF target on the roof, has many stickers all over the windows and rear of the car, and instead of the normal 'cooper, sprite, or city' stickers, it has JOE'S on the boot and bonnet stripes.

Sorry to Hi-jack but i wanted to get all details before i posted a full thread, and this was to just make people aware that another one has gone from the midlands/northern area :D

can i ask the original poster if her car had an alarm and immobiliser on. if so was the alarm armed at the time?

i've got a sportspack and i always make sure the alarms on so was just wondering if just pushing it away would set the alarm off.

As I feared, looks like a spate of this is starting.

Yes, alarmed/automatically immobilised, the alarm saved my Mini from theft a couple of years ago. Don't know why it didn't sound but reckon they knew what to do, they pushed mine away (seen by witness that thought we were bump starting it), must have smashed steering lock and I reckon they loaded it onto a transporter on a quieter street. Our BMW Mini was also half covering the drive, they'd have had a real struggle to get the classic moved. Whole situation screams well planned in advance, our neighbour overlooking the drive was away for that night, she'd seen a bloke hanging around our street several times a week or so before, they'd probably checked out which was their car and seen it wasn't there plus the fact there'd been a big derby football match in our local town so all police were tied up sorting out the aftermath of that.

What can I say apart from tracking device is the way to go, but I expect they'll find a way of stopping that working. With the way mine was taken, if you're going to treat your Mini over the winter months, make sure it's on the best security you can afford!!!

We've a list of 'treats' planned for the thief if they're found.

Was it taken in a similar way to mine? Bit of a long shot but I think thiefs travelled to get mine and my neighbour recently sold a classic mini and had quite a few folk round to view it, not all may have been intent on buying, could have seen mine and though I'll have that instead!

We're 5 mins from a very good motorway network, could be same group stealing them all.

Thanks for that, I'll have a drive over there, one of our friends is in North West Mini Club and a lot of their members live in that area so I'll let them know.

Cheers

Yep, pretty easy. You can easily buy a device designed to stop trackers from working for about £30. for not a whole lot more you can get one that is designed to disrupt GPS and trackers, mobile phones and even police radio, so even if they do spot you they cant call for back up/ call in the chopper. One cop is easier to lose than two, and certainly easier than a helicopter!

If you're going to treat your Mini over the winter months, make sure it's on the best security you can afford!!!

I couldn't agree more with this, I still want a tracker for my mini. Its just one more thing for them to have to tackle. Unfortunately if someone wants it bad enough they will find a way to take it. we just have to do everything in our power to make it as difficult as possible!

And a big part of me really, really begrudges having to go to the effort and spending the cash trying to stop them. I got better things to spend my cash on, but again unfortunately its what we must do to protect our pride and joys
