Stuttering

I know i am always on at the mo. Have loads of questions though. Am getting a stuttering ad hesitation sometimes when i am setting off from junctions etc. Engine is warm and it usually does it after prolonged period at steady 55 to 60. Have replaced leads and dizzy cap. Spark plugs are nearly new. rotor arm is nearly new. Points are nearly new. I know new doesnt necessarily mean not knackered. Am gonna change the coil next. I dont think it is the fuelling/carb because i had it set up at Aldon Automotive 2 months ago and it was brill.

knackered condenser is quite possible.

has it just started doing it since the cold weather?? i'll bet it has and my landy and mini do the same thing when it is a bit chilly > when its warming up and then also after a fast run - carb icing. gotta suck up warmer air from around the exhaust manifold.

I have heard of this carb icing. It does do it when it s cold anf after a long run. It has also been doing it a lot recently in this cold snap. However, it has also done it when it is not freezing cold but nothing like as much as it is now.

it doesn't have to be freezing to icing to occur. as i found out! depends on how damp it is; my landy does it when the temperature is around 7 degrees> i open the bonnet when it won't idle and the carb is all white!, looking down the venturi at times its almost blocked. Air entering the carb accellerates and this is enough to lower the air temp to minus zero - moisture in the air is deposited on the side of the carb throat where it builds up (looking a bit like a transparent doughnut) until the engine chokes to death. (engine running rough because of water in the fuel). Blank off the rad and do whatever you can to keep the engine bay warm. the metal pipe which picks up air fron just above the exhaust manifold and takes it into the air cleaner should cure this, unless you have a k & n air filter

Yeh i have twin carbs with Kand N's. (They have been professionally set up so its not the fuel air ratio). I have changed the condenser and on my initial test drive it seemed to be ok. Will see on my usual journey to work tomorrow. If its not that am gonna change the coil next.
